Did you hear this on NPR? "Rove in charge of PR campaign against Blanco"

I'm trying to find this in the articles online. One of the released memos said Rove was running PR against Blanco. This was during Katrina week, not later. Did you hear it? Looking for a link, trying to find the original memo. What an outrage!

2. Rove report
The Democratic governor's staff also griped that Republicans were attacking Blanco. "Rove is on the prowl," says one unexplained September 3 message from Kopplin to Mann, a reference to Bush adviser Karl Rove.

7. I certainly hope that other US Governors and
Mayors and City Administrators of major US cities have been paying attention to the way the Governor of Louisiana and the Mayor of New Orleans are being maligned by the * administration over the Katrina disaster.

God help them if an act of nature tears up a good chunk of their neck of the woods. God help them cause FEMA won't!

8. It probably explains this...
They knew there were going to be memos flying around, so this must have been just a pre-emptive attempt to cover their asses:

Karl Rove in charge of Katrina Reconstruction Effort

Republicans said Karl Rove, the White House deputy chief of staff and Mr. Bush's chief political adviser, was in charge of the reconstruction effort, which reaches across many agencies of government and includes the direct involvement of Alphonso R. Jackson, secretary of housing and urban development.

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/15/politics/15bush.html

Why else would Karl Rove be in charge of the "reconstruction effort?"

12. (RNC correspondence intercepted) Dear Citizens of St. Bernard Parish:
Hi, guys. Just want to say we've enjoyed many a dish at Rocky and Carlo's... we love you guys.

We know you guys are pretty much all staunch supporters of the Administration. We know you guys aren't too keen on what those criminals have done to New Orleans, the place many of your parents used to live. We know that's what made you vote for this rich guy, when you ordinarily have a healthy suspicion of rich guys who don't seem to be part of the Mob.

It is our painful duty to inform you that your Administration forgot you were there, and hence it has been smiling and nudging onward the post-hurricane destruction, thinking it was just getting rid of those annoying democrats in neighboring Orleans Parish.

Sorry, folks. As you know, any campaign will result in a bit of collateral damage. It's your turn to be the "collateral".

Be sure to send in your donations to your RNC, which is working to make life better for people like you!

Love,

Republican National Committee

9. FIRST PRIORITY IN EMERGENCY: PR!
"OH MY GOD," the stalwart White House leaders must have said, "THERE'S WATER ROARING INTO NEW ORLEANS! ISN'T THAT PART OF OUR TERRITORY? PART OF THE U.S.? QUICK! WE MUST ACT NOW TO MAKE SURE THAT IN NO WAY DO DEMOCRATS LOOK GOOD OVER THIS!!!"

Town gossip Pigboy Karl Rove was wakened from his slumber on his expensive sleep-number bed, where he had been dreaming of a huge flood of biblical proportions engulfing the entire Arab world... except, he discovered as he awoke, the flood was engulfing a democratic-voting district. "THIS IS EVEN BETTER!" whooped Karl, as he pulled on his size-50 Dickies trousers.

11. and he was probably thinking
what a good idea it was to get the contractor to drive those sheet pilings only half as deep as specified. It's oil country, NO should be republican. That's one way to get rid of democrats that can't afford to move on their own.

14. Karl was a fat young whippersnapper when those sheet pilings
were driven under the supervision of the Army Corps of Engineers.

N.O. was not republican. It was full of democrats. Ray Nagin even changed his party affiliation from republican to democrat, when he prepared to run for mayor, b/c he knew this.

Do you seriously think that just b/c a place is "oil country", that the citizens of that place actually get to share equally in the oil revenues? Bwaaaaaaaaaahahaha!

Terribly sorry I presented your Karl in a less than flattering way. Of COURSE he's not to blame! Putting out negative PR about the governor b/c she's a democrat, even as people were drowning, was of course the very best way he could have reacted to this disaster.

I'm so glad the adults are in charge.

10. This was the plan all along (well, the plan after Bu$hco was caught with
their pants down)...it continues...and is the reason New Orleans is being left to hang...and its working...Blanco is at 34% after all the bashing and blame being heaped upon her. I can blame her for a few things, but the complete failure of response is hardly her fault.

the master of personal attacks and smear campaigns is always on the job specially when the bush administration has bungled and botched the Katrina disaster so badly. Psychopath rove is in his element. It is ALWAYS somebody else's fault or blame.

From Daily Kos:

Rove in charge...of New Orleans reconstruction?!?!
by synuclein
Thu Sep 15, 2005 at 01:12:29 PM PDT
OK --- Caught this on Americablog (courtesy of Dan Froomkin at WaPo). Apparently Karl Rove is now in charge of the reconstruction effort following Katrina!

The speculation from Froomkin is that this is a political move as a combo CYA and an effort to dilute the Dem base in NOLA (pretty much the only blue part of a pretty red state). This story needs to be spread to the MSM, if only to ask the essential question "What experience does Karl Rove have in disaster recovery?"

The nice thing about this question is the fact that there are two good answers:

The straight answer is "None". Rove has been a political hack all his life and has no experience with emergency management.

The snark answer is "Just look at GWB's career and his re-election". Of course this will be the more fun answer for the likes of Bill Maher and Jon Stewart.

on edit: added Daily Kos quote

20. Every photo op that was done,
every bashing of the local and state authorities, had a distinct Rovian smell. Even Timmy's bashing of the local parish president on Press the Meat twice had that distinct smell.

It sounds like the memo actually came from Blanco's office, not the WH. This is my summary, but the bolded part I transcribed verbatim >>>

Gov. Blanco has released 100,000 pages of emails documents and notes.

Reporter: Handwritten notes, emails, talking points, offers of assistance & cries for help. Most telling are notes between Blanco & WH.

Sept. 1st from Blanco - We need fed govt's help - after poor response from FEMA, telling residents the response has been federalized is not going to help.

Blanco writes to request supplies & asks that he send home the Nat'l Guard.

Friday Sept 2 - WH aide Mggie Grant asks for copy of the letter because the WH can't find it.

The conflict came to a head by the end of the first week, when the White House was pushing the governor's office to federalize the National Guard. On Sunday, a week after the storm, a staffer sent a warning to the governor's top advisors. Here they call the governor KBB. "Karl Rove is directing effort to put blame on KBB for mess saying that the reason feds not on ground sooner was that she refused to give up her authority."

WH aide Maggie Grant sends an email denying Rove was involved in a smear campaign. But Gov. Blanco's chief of staff Andy Coplon (sp)replies that he is not buying it: "Karl's prints are entirely obvious."

WH was trying to cast Bush Admin in favorable light. In one email dated Sept. 13 WH aid Maggie Grant asks an official in the governor's office if the WH can send Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff to church with the governor. "Hope this helps paint a picture of the day. Please adivse what the gov would like to do. We'd love to have someone like Secretary Chertoff attend a service with her."
