If you think Christmas sucks this year and you think liberals...
are engaged in a plot to destroy the holiday, you might be an idiot. Did it ever occur to you that Christmas sucks for you because you've been a hateful bastard all year and no amount of shopping can wipe away the slime? The stores can put on all kinds of shows and hire a fake Santa and even some elves but it can't erase condoning this...

or this....

http://www.spiegel.de/img/0,1020,513524,00.jpg

or this...

You're planning on celebrating the birth of the Prince of Peace and you expect to be welcomed at his table with blood on your hands? You ignorant jackasses. You can't feel the Christmas spirit because through your sin-filled pride, you have abandoned the Lord. You have betrayed everything that man stood for and have committed a sacrilige by committing terrible acts in his name. If you truly believe the Bible or at least find comfort in the hope it inspires, you can't possibly believe the things that you are doing are right. If you believe in the Bible, how can you support torture, war, crushing poverty and inhumane neglect? If you support these things, how can you expect to be welcome to the celebration of the life of the Son of God?

If you support these acts, you are just as guilty of the sin as those who commit the crime. And for that, you're univited to Jesus's birthday. He's not coming to your house. You can search in every department store and strip mall you like; you can max out your credit; you can spend until you drop but you can't buy an invitation to the party and gate-crashers are not welcome. You percieve this as a War but the only battle taking place is the inner-battle of you killing your conscience.

You are "the wicked" and though I pity you, I will not celebrate the birth of the Savior with you. I will not even mention him in your presence. As a Christian, I shun you and all like you. On Christmas day, I will beg the Lord to bless my home for one more year and I will ask him to forgive you idiots and ask for hope that you will one day return to the fold. I am not a shepherd of Christ so I'm not coming to bring you in out of the cold. I know that's un-Christian but I'm sure that's the last thing on the list of reasons I'll be sitting in Hell. You can pretend that it's heartless corporations or some Liberal scheme if that makes you feel better but in the end, you know what you've done and so does He. In the war on Christmas, you're on the wrong side and you will never know peace until you come back to His side. For your sakes, I pray you do. Merry Christmas.

2. well done.
I would like to point out that it is not our job, as Christians, to be the shepherd. We are all sheep... some within the fold, others out there, lost and roaming around. We already have a Shepherd.

has him arising in the Spring... The Bible has been mis-interrupted & re-written one too many times.

If more church-goers read it themselves rather then listen to small phrases taken out here and there as a bases for an entire sermon, they'd soon realize there are many discrepancies throughout.

While they're are it, they should research who, what and when the Bible was in reality written. I know I did, and would if I followed it to a tee, as many seem to do. I think they'd be shaken a bit (putting it mildly).

17. Why I think Christmas sucks this year.
I don't go overtly Christian, but like a lot of "collapsed Catholics," I still observe the holiday for the way it brings people together. As a reault, even my Wiccan friends get "Winter Solstice" gifts at this time of year.

But what makes Christmas suck this year is that everyone SEEMS to know that we're in bad shape and heading for worse...but we keep pretending we aren't. In fact, it's that pretense that seems to be the overriding spirit of the season.

People are scrabbling over Xbox 360's, which are basically hallucination machines. You can imagine you're in a world where you can be a conquering hero without consequences...until your electrical power is cut off for nonpayment.

Others are buying iPods, so they can surround themselves with music wherever they go and ignore the wails of the desperate.

It isn't even electronic delusions that are necessary. A phony "war against Christmas" is the biggest hallucination of them all, adding hatred and prejudice to a holiday that, in my memory, was never supposed to have it.

I think everyone is frantic about these Christmas delusions this year, because on December 26, they're going to have to face bills, layoffs, energy shortage and their own conceited indifference for the message of the season.

I think Christmas is in our memories. For me, it's a day to get together with friends and family, share presents and eat some really excellent food. I don't see anything religious in it.

25. Folks like Bill O'Reilly spew hatred during the holidays
because they hate themselves. They are just trying to draw attention away from their un-christian immoral actions.

I wonder how Jesus feels about us celebrating his birthday 4 months late with lots of pagan symbols and cold heartless consumerism. He was born around early September. It is official position of the Catholic church that Jesus's immaculate conception took place in early December, therefore he was born 9 months later. Roman Emperor Constantine knew perfectly well that pagans wouldn't mind celebrating "Christmas" if it was the same time as winter solstice and used their existing symbols.

33. You have read my mind. And put it in print.
That sums it up. The only difference is that I arrived there 20 years ago. I was incensed, and dumped the "season". I have found that there are many excuses to continue with the habit called Christmas. If I remember, it was invented by Macy's. It's not even the time of year in which Jesus was born. It vaguely resembles the three wise men. But that's where it ends. Stop making bombs. Start feeding and educating. Come up to a common denominator. Then we'll celebrate.

Who needs Christ when you have Santa.

49. Your rage is justified...
Edited on Fri Dec-16-05 08:50 PM by StoryTeller
The wrongs being committed at this point by our country are horrifying. I can't help but compare it to the society Jesus was born in. Christians are celebrating that birth at this time of year (even though his real birthdate was most likely September), and there is a lot of similarities between his time and ours. Their sense of rage and anger was also justified.

The challenge is that if we celebrate the birth of the baby, are we going to also celebrate what he taught as an adult? Things like loving your enemy, forgiving those who oppress you, accepting those who seem to us to be unloveable. Among his friends were not only the poor, the "sinners," and others of society's outcasts, but also tax collectors, religious leaders, and others who may have been guilty of oppression and corruption.

He displayed anger towards those who abused and oppressed the innocent and helpless, but he never let it turn to rage or bitterness. He stood willing to welcome any and all who were willing to be changed. He was always ready to forgive.

As one of Jesus' followers, I can accept no less from myself. So while I share your anger, I cannot applaud your rage, justified as it is. I have to continually place my anger at His feet and ask for it to be replaced by a humble attitude that is willing to forgive and that truly seeks to love even my enemies. And then I ask for the strength and wisdom and opportunity to fight against the wrongs in whatever way I can, not for the purpose of vengeance against those who have committed the wrongs, but for the purpose of seeing as many lives as possible (both innocent and guilty) changed, improved, and rescued.

For me, that's what Christmas is really for.
