10. The sickest thing about Frist's medical school hijinks

is that if the cheap bastard would have been upfront about this with the animal shelter workers, they would have worked with him.

All medical school students dissect things--worms, frogs, small mammals then finally humans. Most students buy their specimens from a company that collects, kills (or buys euthanized specimens from shelters, in the case of dogs and cats) and preserves animals for use in education. But these are expensive and were probably cutting into his beer money, so he needed an alternate solution.

What Frist did was to bail cats out of the pound, take them back to the lab and kill them.
If he would have gone to the pound workers and told them "I am a medical student at Harvard, I really can't afford to buy dead cats, can you help?" they would probably have told him to be at the back door at 2:30 in the morning and they'll give him all the dead cats he wants.

I just was too curious - had to know. And judging from the book, it seemed that they were only of use to him if they were alive because he would cut the hearts out while they were still beating and study them and the fact that they kept beating for awhile after they were cut out. He seemed to get a real charge out of that, the sick piece of filth...
