It's time to wage an economic war on the RW
Edited on Thu Dec-15-05 11:39 AM by ck4829
I am proposing a 3 part solution on how to fight the Right.

1. Spend less... PERIOD. I am not saying to starve yourself or not buy medicine or anything like that. But, it's time to break the chain of consumerism. Not only that, but our taxes are going to fund the RW, whether it is Propaganda, Karl Rove's Salary, or equipment that is used to torture people in Abu Ghraib, we have a duty to stop that. So, the first thing is to save and conserve in any way you can.

2. When you buy things, be sure to buy blue. Buy Blue is an excellent place to learn how to avoid shops and stores that fund the RW.

3. Boycott. Boycott Coors, Boycott Sinclair, Boycott Fox News, Boycott Everything that is RW.

The time for the Revolution is NOW, who is prepared to rise up and fight the Far Right?

I think I can gladly tell you that my entire peace group in Newton County, many of whom are environmentalists, have been doing this for years. And yes, it does help. We are still an Arkansas county WITHOUT a Wal-Mart.

4. Already There...
...been doing this for years. I don't understand why liberal/progressives support the RW through their purchases. Particularly galling is the viewing of Faux News or listening to Rush to "see/hear what the enemy is doing." How anyone can stomach Rush, Hannity or O'Rielly is beyond me.

As a side benefit, not only will your mental health improve by turning away form these gasbags, your physical health will as well by not buying the crappy, additive laden, low nutritional value food products they push.

I only wish I had a Citgo in my area so I could send more money to Chavez. As it is, I keep my driving to a minimum, not only to save money, but to reduce the tonnage of GHG coming out of the tailpipe.

I guess conservation is...uh...my "personal virtue."

5. Yes - conserve & DIY

Wife and i are punks. We're learning to do things ourselves. Bundling up. Conserving energy at home. Shopping at local farmer's market. Almost completely eliminated supermarket shopping. Parked the car. Reduced car insurance payments by 75%. Taking public transportation. Practicing martial arts and walking everyday for exercise. Using Chinese medicine, herbs, nutritional supplements to stay healthy. We NEVER go to (boycotting) Walmart, Walgreens, Safeway etc. Paying off all loans. Ripped up all credit cards but one for emergencies. The TV stays off except for watching DVDs (and Smallville!). We read to each other to improve our education and spend quality time together.

It's become a kind of game to come up with creative ways to save more money and become more autonomous. It's fun too, and feels good to realize there's just SO much about the American lifestyle that's just plain unnecessary, frivolous, or downright debilitating.

Will look into http://buyblue.org/. Thanks for the link!

:headbang:

BTW, this reminds me. Does DU have a frugality forum yet? Shouldn't we?
