ideas, policies, and laws... and then...

when people are properly outraged, polls go down, and
they get bad publicity...

... they back down and soften up.

Every policy they support seems to have the purpose of harming others, depriving people of their rights, and fucking up the world in general. They oppose abortion because they want to control women, they are pro-gun, pro-war, and pro-death penalty because they like killing people, they hate gays because they are bigots and oppose equal rights for everyone, they oppose AA because they are racist, and they oppose gay marriage, support "under God" in the pledge, support creationism and oppose evolution, and oppose people saying "Happy Holidays" because they do not tolerate other religions and want Christianity to be the only religion practiced in America.

The right wingers will not do the right thing because they are morally and ethically inferior so they have to be forced by moral superiors (the left)to back down.
