Man Kills Wife, Children Over Household Chores
--Maybe prison will make him a better man and he will do some nice things people....(yeah some sarcasm in that.)

Police: Man Kills Wife, Children Over Household Chores
Suspect Argued With Wife Over His Chores

POSTED: 7:33 am EST December 15, 2005

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- A man accused of killing his family told police he beat and strangled his wife and killed their three children after the couple argued about him doing chores around the house, according to a court record.

Police found Simon Rios, 33, on the front porch of his home on the city's south side after receiving a suicide call about 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Inside the home, officers found a puddle of blood on the living room floor, a probable cause affidavit said. They found Rios' wife, Ana Casas, and the couple's three children dead in a bedroom.

Rios pleaded not guilty Wednesday to four preliminary counts of murder and two counts of moving a body. He was being held without bond in the Allen County Jail.

Allen County Coroner E. Jon Brandenberger said autopsies found that Casas, 28, had died from blunt force trauma to the head and strangulation and that 4-year-old Katherinne G. Rios, 20-month-old Thannya Karolinna Rios and 10-year-old Liliana Rios Casas had been strangled.

5. If we're going to generalize
They might have been democrats because they had Hispanic last names. That, of course, is if we're going to generalize.

12. How hateful.
:(.

You know, not all of us in Indiana are Republicans, tyvm. And regardless, even if that poor woman was Republican, it is shameful to be so nonchalant about her murder. We may not agree with Republicans, but they are people too.

16. truly silly statement
Do you think everyone in Indiana is a republican? Are you aware that one of Indiana's two senators is a Democrat (Evan Bayh) and that he actually received more votes than Bush did in 2004? No you probably don't know and don't care. I'm astonished at how many people who are smart enough to find DU fall are so politically unsophisticated that they fall into the trap of using simplistic "red state"/"blue state" labels. Denigrating states where a majority supported Chimpy simply is denigrating the substantial minority (and, in the case of some elections, such as the Indiana senate race, a substantial majority) of voters that support Democrats.

19. Why?
Why would that be? Because he murdered his family? Do you think aggression and murder and abuse only fall into one party? Or was there something in the article that only you seemed to have grasped, something that automatically points to what party this man supports?

4. I heard on a radio call in show from Ft. Wayne, last week..
a lady called in and was looking for a job for her husband because he was laid off and she was tired because she had to do all the cooking, cleaning, and chores along with taking care of the kids after she came home from work while he professed to be looking but could find nothing, (said he even tried mcdonalds) she was looking for a job for him, while I was listening several job offers came in, including 2 different mcdonalds. Man I hope it wasn't this particular family.

7. I tried to get a job at McDonald's years ago
After being laid off at a job. Wanted to avoid welfare. They would not hire me because I was supporting a family and figured I would leave as soon as a better paying job came along. The manager actually told me that was the reason he didn't want to hire me.

Was this a happy family? Any record of spousal abuse? Seems there were some trouble in the past. Did the father have a history of mental illness?

13. He does now.
I hate these cases, because they really push me to the wall in my total opposition to the death penalty. But, I can fantasize about taking this motherfucker outside and showing him what it feels like to die from strangulation.

The history is probably that of a man who didn't have a whole lot of marketable skills, who believed his masculinity was being disrespected, and who was frustrated in ways most of us, thankfully, will never know.

It's just horrid.

26. On the news
- the police said they had made several runs to the house due to domestic disturbance in the recent past.

I think they said they said he called the police after he did it.

10. I know a woman
whose husband lost his job shortly after they had their first kid.

He was at home, and, for the next twenty years, he never had any kind of paying job (yep, he did volunteer work). She busted her ass and became very successful in her field.

While he was at home with the new baby, she had to hire a full-time housekeeper and nanny. She had to hire people to cut the grass. She had to pay for everything, including someone to put up the storm windows.

And he watched TV.

They're not married anymore, but, as soon as they split, he met - honest to god - an heiress to a HUGH fortune, moved into her apartment on Central Park West, she bought him a big Benz, and they've been together for years.

The former wife is still busting her butt, sending their two kids to college, paying for it all.

Why she never killed him, I'll never understand.

that? I could see someone getting pissed off and yelling, even hitting, but to slaughter your entire family really seems out there.

29. Do we need to believe the stated reasons of crazy people?
Anyone who kills his family did it for reasons that go way beyond household chores.

Is he literally crazy? Is he a really bad man who finally went beyond the pale? Does he have a brain tumor?

I'm not trying to excuse him, but to suggest emphasis on the "chores" is missplaced, IMO.
