I'm just pretending that I'm president, and assembling my cabinet, to amuse myself. I think I've got a pretty good lineup here, but I would like to include more women and minorities. Any suggestions? Not that there's any danger of me becoming president. :)

State: Bill Clinton

Treasury: Paul Krugman

Defense: Wesley Clark, or maybe Sam Nunn

Attorney General: John Edwards

Homeland Security: Gary Hart

Interior: Walter Mondale

Agriculture: Charlie Stenholm

Commerce: Robert Rubin

Labor: Richard Gephardt

HHS: Howard Dean

HUD: Charlie Rangel

Transportation: Robert Menendez

Energy: Jan Schakowsky

Education: Al Gore

Veterans Affairs: Max Cleland

Does he know enough? This is a star studded cast.

That seems, to me, to be a more substantive position than Surgeon General, but I certainly could be wrong.

7. Fareed Zakaria should be secretary of state

Not only is he among the most well qualified when it comes to acedemic and intellectual respect and credence, having a Muslim as our voice to the world would be extremely advantageous in these times.

It has been seriously suggested in some periodicles.

A former president as Secretary of State? I don't know. I think Clinton might do it. What I'm trying to do is come up with the ultimate cabinet.

I've seen Fareed on tv and he certainly seems like a smart guy, but getting the US Senate to confirm a Muslim as Secretary of State, in the current political climate, does seem a bit farfetched to me.

not that bigoted. Zakaria isn't really religious at all.

He's an indian diplomats kid who's been educated in America and is a New Yorker.

I know alot of people here think that 99 percent of people with R's after there names have swastika tattoos and attend Klan rallies but that just isn't the case.

Zakaria would be confirmed with just as much ease as Powell or anyone else

I think "controversial" is the word right now. But then, that's "right now." After another year of Bush, many more people will be using the word "prescient" to describe Krugman. So who knows? :-)

Does it? If there's a law about that, I'm not aware of it. Is there?
