Edwards internal South Carolina poll results
The latest Edwards internal poll shows him still leading in South Carolina amongst "likely" voters. MoE +/- 4.4. (September)

Edwards 23 (23)
Undec. 22 (23)
Dean 12 (7)
Lieberman 12 (8)
Clark 9 (13)
Gephardt 7 (6)
Sharpton 6 (8)
Kerry 5 (3)
Braun 4 (5)
Kucinich 1 (1)

Note that while several independent polls have shown Edwards with the lead, they generally peg him in the mid-teens. His internals are quite charitable. But the trends are interesting in any case.

1. I ain't from SC, but this seems strange--mainly Kerry only at 5%
You'd think he'd be higher.

3. Someone suggested to me the other night...
...that Edwards was running for Pres. because he would have gotten beaten in NC if he ran for re-election. I had never considered this possibility. What do y'all think?

5. This is a rumor we have seen on DU or at least a year.
So far as I know, there is nothing to it, it was probably stared by someone here who dislikes Edwards (there are a few!)... But this shows how disinformation quickly turns into a 'truism'.

I live in NC, and I have never heard anyone say anything against the man.

6. I think there were some polls done earlier this year that showed…
less than 50% support for reelection.

unfortunately, I don't have any links to back this up.

7. Don't worry about this poll
After Dean wins Iowa and New Hampshire, he'll have so much momentum behind him that poor Edwards will be crushed like a bug.

8. Much remains to be seen
I wouldn't start measuring for drapes in the Oval Office quite yet. Lets be patient.
