The California solution
I know many think this recall effort will fail to make the ballot. I sure hope it does. But in case it makes the ballot here is our solution. The Lt Gov runs on the replacment ballot with no other left wing candidate. If Davis wins then cool. If not the Lt Gov takes over and appoints Davis the new Lt Gov. Then he resigns and appoints Davis Governor and Davis appoints him Lt Gov. Let the Republican rat bastards stew on that.

1. Simpler solution
60 days before the recall vote, Davis resigns in favor of his Lt. Govorner, Bustamonte, canceling the recall of Davis since he won't be govorner. 2 years from now, the Replutocans can attempt to unseat Bustamonte as a incumbent instead of having to run against him as a 'new face'. We get Bustamonte for the next 2 terms (10 years or so). Bustamonte gets tapped for a VP spot in 2012.

4. absolutely not
This is nothing short of an end run around elections. Davis, who I think is a lousy Governor, won fairly and squarely. Either elections matter or they don't. If they get away with this they will do it over and over and over again. California will become an ungovernable mess. Win or lose we must stand on principle here. If we can't use my solution (and I take it we can't from below) then we must fight with Davis.

2. wouldnt that be illegal?
and unethical?

By the way, Lite Gov cant run on the ballot. He becomes the arbiter of the recall.

3. Didn't know that he was the arbitur
of the recall. But as to the ethics just let that car theif and gun runner lecture anyone on that subject. Issa is trying a coup and frankly can take ethics and stick them somewhere.

6. I don't think it's possible
since California has term limits, and Davis already has been Lt. Governor for 2 terms.

8. Run lots of Republicans
split that vote and let Davis win again. Running California will never be an easy job. Farming, environment, mountains, ocean, cities, numerous ethnicities, people moving in and out, military, energy needs... people should be happy it's functioning at all really!

9. No Cowardice. It's Davis or Camejo!
DUers keep saying that they want Davis to resign if the pressure gets too much.

I think that's bunk. Two reasons:

(1) What better way to prove that you're weak than to resign rather than face a fight? Did Clinton resign? If Davis resigns it'll look like we're scared. That's almost worse than losing control to the GOP!

(2) What if the economy gets worse? What if the GOP STILL refuses to agree to a budget? Then we've just smoked one of our most promising Democratic politicians by having him replace Davis (now a coward). Who the hell wants to turn Bustamonte into Gerald Ford? Not me.

Davis should fight to the end. And we should threaten to elect the Green if the GOP gets the recall votes.

I'm not even a Green, and this is clear. If the Reich Wing GOP wants to reinact the Weimar Republic in the California Republic they need to understand that the Commies can win too. The only way to make that clear is to humiliate them with the rules they demand.
