Hey Hey georgie how many kids have you killed today? Remember the slogans from the last quagmire? We need some new material for when the draft reappears and middle class america wakes up.
What can we come up with?

Four states put new teeth in the federal Selective Service System registration requirement. In Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky and New Mexico, males applying for a state driver’s license will automatically be registered for the draft as of July 1.

(sorry- link didn't transfer correctly for some reason, guess it's a copy and paste)

I don't have any ideas right now on how to go about it, but I sure hope the alarm clocks start ringing soon.

I have sons who are 19 and 16.

4. The Draft is not coming back.
IT would sink his chance at an election. It would forestall any intervention in Syria or Iran (and the administration has made it clear that they want to invade those countries). It would put a lie to the theory that our involvement in the middle east is somehow easy and no big deal. And it would galvanize civil libertarians in his own party. It would give the white house to the Democrats (either now or in 2008).

I can see them setting a program with greater incentives however--a better GI bill or something like that.

6. Sooner than that
They'll be forced into it. Manpower is stretched thin right now, there isn't enough natural guard units or reservists to fill the place of troops involved in empiricle schemes right now. The draft is just a matter of time. and it will be the downfall of the neocons, pnac, and the shrubs past present and future.
They know this and are scared to death of it, Franks parrotted it the other day saying there was enough manpower to do the job, he knows only too well there isn't.
While our simian and his henchmen were moving their checkers, the iraqis hid their queen and now while georgie* is looking to get crowned the Iraqis have put him into jeapardy.
They can't contol world events, as much as they would like to the world doesn't revolve around the pnac scheme to run the planet. They see their downfall too late, and its called D-R-A-F-T.

9. There's a lot of ass covering going on now
I think that you are absolutely right about the manpower problem caused by the occupation of Iraq.

They've been dancing aroung this issue for months. It's already a big political negative for the neo con regime as far as internal politics go. The statements of unflagging commitment to the Iraq occupation no matter how long it takes by Centcom commanders is the unbranded advertising for fresh cannon fodder.

13. THe other possibility
Is to move the UN as a peacekeeping force. This would have the positive effects of letting us look like we want a rapproachment with the UN and also free up some of our troops. It would be criticized by the far right, but I don't think very loudly--they know it's necessary like you say.

7. I think you're right on the timing!
Until then you can count on the skyrocketing rate of unemployment to keep the replacements coming from the poor families!
