4. Molly Ivins supports Dean, me too
My fellow Dems, I think we have got ourselves a winner
By Molly Ivins
FORT WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM

AUSTIN, Texas -- No one has been waiting with bated breath for me to make up my mind about the Democratic presidential candidates, but I have, and you might be interested in how I got there. I'm for Howard Dean -- because he's going to win.
It is the bounden duty of bleeding-heart liberals like myself to make our political choices based on purity of heart, nobility of character, depth of compassion, sterling integrity and generosity of spirit. The concept of actually winning a political race does not, traditionally, influence the bleeding heart liberal one iota -- certainly not in the primaries.
Edit ...
Dean gives a hell of a speech -- even if you're Republican, you should go and hear him just for the experience. But I fretted about Dean on TV -- TV is so important. How could anyone poker up on Margaret Carlson of PBS, not one of the world's toughest interviewers? But then I saw Dean laugh his way through a Chris Matthews interview (which he should have done with Tim Russert, who was hell-bent on gotcha questions), and I know the guy can take care of himself. So he fights back if you get in his face -- that's not all bad.
I know, he's even less of a liberal than Bill Clinton was, but I don't think Dean is a moderate centrist. I think he's a fighting centrist. And folks, I think we have got ourselves a winner here.

I do find it interesting that there are so many Dean bashers here at DU, and yet he wins poll after poll here...

8. I haven't bashed Dean and I like Clark
If Dean can beat Bush, then we all win. But I think Clark has the better chance at beating Bush because of his ability to bring in more independents and repubs into his camp.

Dean's following is not big enough to win I think and the right can use all the dirty tricks on him that they did on Gore but Clark stands up and tells them "no sir!" like he did to the jerk on Faux. Dean cannot do that.

28. It's his niche
The reason Dean wins so many polls here is the same reason Kucinich and Clark are so high in the polls here: Their initial support grew via online efforts, so their supporters are the most likely to vote in online polls. If you did a pencil and paper poll via a newspaper, for example, you'd probably get a different distribution of votes.

Gep is my favorite, but I dont think he would win a primary today, so I vote Clark because he is a better candidate for the general election than Dean.

23. Clark's the man!
He's running for president, and he is not used to losing.  And if he gets the nomination, he'll go up and down this country and beat on President Bush like a drum.  He'll do 2,000 yards every morning; he'll rappel down any cliff he needs to; he will shake off any small-arms fire as if it were a swarm of gnats.  And he'll get better at the game each and every day.
He hates to lose.  And he doesn't run from fights.
And even if he's never played the game, he's never a beginner at anything.
Dismissed."

46. I'm shutting this down.
Our server logs indicate that we've had an influx of new registrations from at least one clark website who logged on to vote in the poll.

I want to say welcome to all of you -- I'm impressed by your enthusiasm. I hope you'll stick around. But in the future I'd prefer if you avoided freeping our polls.

I have instructed Elad to program a new function so that this will no longer be possible.
