Paul Newman endorses Howard Dean.
It was reported on C-SPAN this AM. Paul Newman is a respected and benevolent liberal with many charitable activities. His endorsement is one of the best that Hollywood has to offer.

4. I've known Newman, a Connecticut resident, has supported Dean
for months now. I think that Newman just made it official.

Paul Newman has a camp for terminally ill kids in Eastford, CT, about 15 miles west of where I live.

22. And In Rather Conservative Upstate NY
aka, Patakiland, Newman is thought of kindly for helping Charlie Wood help disadvantaged/disabled kids. I wonder how this - if this - will play in the Post Star.

9. Why doesn't Newman run for elected office?
He has far better political credentials than the Austrian muscle-boy.

He'd make a fine Senator.

14. Including the biggest hack of all, Ronnie Raygun.
Crappy Democratic actor turns into the Republican poster-child President. The only 1/2 decent acting job he ever did in his whole life was pretending to be in charge of the country while Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld ran stuff.

Redford is another great one. Why the heck hasn't he ever served? Newman and Redford could EASILY win in even the most Republican states in the country.

15. Politics is great for "failing up"
look at Newt. A college teacher who didn't make tenure so he got into politics. Congress is full of them. Failing up. So, we get those incredibly creepy Repug representatives. It's not teachers who "can't do" so they teach, it's conservative politicians.

10. Cool!
I've met Paul Newman, and his just-folks modesty and humor are 100% sincere. He's a fine human being. (And I would have said that about him no matter which Dem he'd chosen.)

19. I don't buy any other salad dressing except Newman's
Have always admired him. He had a pretty charmed life, but has always tried to help others. This is another great endorsemenet, IMHO!

24. His son died.
I'm not remonstrating with you...just noting that nobody has a 100%charmed life.

I was associated with the Newmans for a long time. They are both extraordinary people. I can assure you all that Paul has never spoken out on any public issue that he has not studied in depth beforehand. He knows the sway a movie star has over unthinking people. Another thing, he also knows he's an actor -not a politician, although he has played one on the big screen. :)
