i HATE them!
cable was out for about an hour and when it came back first thing i hear is that a woman, dying of breast cancer, wants to see her daughter who's a soldier in Iraq, one more time before she dies, and the Pentagon is NOT cooperating!!! Does anyone know anything about this? Sorry if this has already been addressed.

1. Yesterday on CNN they talked about it...
apparently the Pentagon denied the daughter the leave to take care of her mother. I forget what the exact term of the request. That was pretty much all they said. Pretty damned f'd up if you ask me.

oops. I posted at the wrong message. This is what I meant to say:

It break my heart to see this happen. Two years ago, our 26 year old son was dieing with an aggressive form of cancer. Our oldest son was in the Air Force and they sent him home for the last six weeks of his brother's life and encouraged him to spend a few weeks with us afterward.

I guess there are new rules with this new President.

Our oldest son is out of the Air Force now.

3. Don't they have hardship leave?
My dad got it when he was a Marine in '52 to care for his dying father.

5. I used to process hardship leaves in the Air Force
They were quite compassionate. I'm suspecting now, howver, that they are thinking if they grant this one, hundreds more will be requesting hardships. I know, I know - they are a**holes but I'm betting that's what the thinking is.

6. I didn't know
you were in the Air Force. Where did you serve and how long? My oldest daughter and her husband are both officers in the Air Force stationed for the last 4 years in Hawaii but will soon (August) be moving to Whitman in Missouri.

7. Yes they do have hardship leave.
I was stationed in the Sinai when I received a Red Cross message that my mother was suffering from terminal cancer. My chain of command reccommended that I take emergency leave and then sign into a unit
in Hawaii. I did and put in a request for a compassionate reassignment, I was on TDY with the JAG offfice for about 2 months
when my request was approved.
