Is The Jerusalem Post a trust worthy source?
What is the story behind this place?

1. IMHO, they are pretty right wing
Others would probably disagree though. I don't think I've ever seen the publish a story critical of Sharon or Israeli policy toward the Palestinians so if that fits with your personal philosophy you might enjoy reading it.

11. Ask the Malysian prime minister...
Give me a break! The Jerusalem Post is located in Israel -- front lines in the war on terrorism!

14. So is Ha'aretz, but they are more balanced
again, IMHO. I don't see what being at the "front lines in the war on terrorism" has to do with anything I posted.

2. They're part of Conrad Black's media empire I believe.
If he still has a media empire, that is. He owned or had stake in several right wing papers worldwide, including the Telegraph in London and the Sun in NY.

3. No. Very, very rightwing.

Richard Perle, the quintessential dual-allegiance Zionist and accused Israeli spy (in the Jonathan Pollard espionage case), is a research fellow at the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research, a board member of the hawkish pro-Israel Advisors of Foundation for Defense of Democracy (Perle shares this position with the right-wing Zionists Charles Krauthammer, William Kristol, and Gary Bauer), and is the former director of the Jerusalem Post.

The Republican National Committee declared that "Soros has purchased the Democratic party." Amotz Asa-El, a columnist in Conrad Black's Jerusalem Post, warned last week that Soros undermines world Jewry by "unwittingly parad(ing) the shadow of the Court Jew, the Wandering Jew, and the medieval money lender who for centuries fed anti-Semitism's sick imagination."

Hollinger, a Chicago-based media company that owns the U.K.'s Telegraph Group, the Chicago Sun-Times and the Jerusalem Post, also invested $14 million in a British technology company that includes Mr. Perle and his business partner as shareholders.

In addition, Hollinger gave $200,000 a year to the National Interest, a conservative publication that includes Mr. Perle, Mr. Kissinger and Hollinger's former chief executive, Conrad Black, as advisers.

9. It's also where Wolf Blitzer honed his 'skills'
Blitzer was a correspondent for the JP for about 15 years before he went to CNN. I'm pretty sure Perle was there on the board during part of the same time period.

4. Oddly enough, they were one of the only papers...
to mention (in a banner headline on their print edition, no less) that, despite Saddam's capture, the attacks against the coalition are continuing...

But, yes, they must be Ariel Sharon's favorite paper, given their editorial slant.

6. *Very* right-wing.
It's Israel's equivalent of the Washington Times.

7. For a Much Better (balanced) Israeli Perspective read Ha'aretz
It is much further to the left and much better represents Israeli perspectives from boh sides (left and right).

It is also the largest read English language Israeli papers in Israel.

It has refreshing perspectives and great editorials and honest reporting.

I also recommend Tikkun.org for a balanced and left-leaning Jewish American Jewish/Israeli perspective.

10. The Jerusalem Post ran an article a few weeks ago
The Jerusalem Post ran an article a few weeks ago that the US is restoring the Iraqui secret police to power.

It isn't so rightwing that it doesn't print important articles which may cause someone to question the US role in Iraq.

13. Ha'aretz
I third the recommendation of Ha'aretz. It's a good newspaper.

15. It has no qualms about distorting wire reports
And mostly runs articles of complete idiocy.

However, it is quite useful in the sense that reading it lets you know what the right-wing in Israel (and outside, given the ownership) wants on the agenda in the United States.
