Appalling Dean fundraiser
This is from a conservative source but this is so appalling I believe it deserves to be posted here.

http://www.nypost.com/postopinion/opedcolumnists/13505.htm

<Sandra Bernhard insulted her in racial terms with a "Yes Massa" accent at another Dean fundraiser the same night. >

<Dean rival Joe Lieberman got ridiculed for being unable to campaign on Jewish holidays because he's Orthodox.>

<Cheney's daughter Mary, who is gay, was called "a big lezzie." Even the apolitical "jokes" were ugly - like a suggestion that it's bizarre to see an Asian baby with Asian parents because so many Asian babies are adopted by whites.>

And, of course, the N-word made an appearance at this fundraiser.

1. Be Fair
Dean condemned these jokes on-stage at that event.

2. Just like Lott condemned his pals at the CCC
He should have shown some leadership and condemned them when it counted.

8. There's a Long Way Between Comics and the CCC
Trying to equate them does you a disservice, IMO. Moreover, Dean DID condemn the jokes when they counted...right at the event.

Yes, he took the money, but I think the comics were donating their time, and the audience was donating their money. It's not like the AUDIENCE did anything wrong.

19. He should have condemned them on the spot
Not well after they had finished their routines.

25. What Do You Expect Him To Do? Wrestle the Mic From Them?
Yeah, THAT'D go over REAL well.

You need to maintain some perspective, IMO. Bashing Dean over stupid shit like this does not do either you or Clark any good.

10. He directly called them out for this shit
right there on stage. What do you want besides an immediate, verbal, public response? Should he have started whipping himself? Donned a hairshirt perhaps?

11. rightwing talking points memo
The theme of the 2000 election was "Gore is a liar."

The theme of the 2004 election is "The Democrats are haters."

So Dean spoke at a comedy event. Big deal.

The comedy was probably funny in context.

12. POOP
Dean lambasted the bigoted humor there, which he had no control over.

And yes, this is tired, rehashed, regurgitated, premasticated POOP.

Edited on Wed Dec-17-03 12:03 AM by nomaco-10
conservative sites. Come on you can do better than this, when you have to rely on conservative sources to to smear a good dem candidate, you are literally scraping the bottom of the barrel. This is so yesterday's news and Dean was completely vindicated over this event.

Dean disassociated himself from these remarks at the time. He was outraged.

This is just one more smear. Sickening.

21. He should have known better
This was controversy waiting to happen. We all know that they can be foul and non PC. Comics aren't going to temper themselves in the interest of what's good for the candidate they're raising money for. If someone suggested to a candidate that they try to put together a fundraiser with Chuck Berry, the best bet would be a big hell no. It might bring in a lot of money, but it might also alienate a lot of women.

Shows that Dean has class and won't hesitate to tell his own supporters when they are behaving badly. Kudos to Dean for being such a stand up guy with incredible integrity!

29. Locking - inflammatory.
This is little more than inflammatory gossip in an opinion piece by conservative Deborah Orin in the conservative N.Y.Post.
