Is Anybody Excited About Iowa and New Hampshire?
I was wondering if everybody was getting
excited about the primaries and caucuses starting
pretty soon, first in Iowa and then New Hampshire.
It should be a pretty interesting thing with a lot
of people running and a lot of different exciting
things going on. It's the season of politics and
rallies and speeches and I believe it's time to start
thinking about who you are going to back and support.
No time like the present, because the lazy bird don't
get no worm. Let's get up a list of all the
candidates that are running and see what they
said and done on all the different issues and what
we think about it and what we like and what we
maybe don't like so much and things that we might
have a question about that maybe somebody else
knows the answer to. Let's get a big discussion
going about all those sort of things.

2. Looking at Feb 3rd --- BIG day.
Yes, but....February 3rd is the first big "breakout" day. South Carolina, Oklahoma and Arizona are the key states to watch.
Here's the calendar:

4. I think the country is going to be shocked at the level of participation
this time. The Dean camp alone has gotten a ton of people who will be voting in their first primary ever. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if half of his supporters have never voted in a primary before. The turn out is going to be huge news.

9. Vegetarian food in the midwest
You will have to ask around.

I was in Southern Ohio earlier this year and -- coming from California -- was amazed at the limited variety of food outside of the biggest cities.

Everything seemed to be fried. We were even offered -- mmmmmm --- fried cheesecake!

11. Hint:
Nothing pisses off Midwesterners more than Easterners or Californians coming in and telling them how quaint or backward or whatever they are. Sure, ask where the vegetarian places are (most places will have a place that has vegetarian items on the menu), but don't be patronizing. 99.9% of Midwesterners don't give a shit what *you* eat, but resent being lectured or ridiculed.

I only know about Misouri, Kansas and Iowa firsthand; Ohio very well may suck!

12. thanks for the tip!
i'll be sure to pack some p&j whenever out and about. i can see how they might find vegetarians to be patronizing - i'll try and keep my animal rights lecture on the dl.

20. Plenty of veggie restaurants in Midwest
Plenty of places that have a veggie selection...no worries.

Where in Iowa are you going to be? Des Moines is actually pretty cool (no pun intended).

7. Yes!
I am going to Iowa in a few weeks (Jan 2-6), and hopefully to NH at the end of January.

Cold cold cold (esp. leaving California), but worth it to help Dean win!

13. I'm off to both states
in January and I've been giddy with excitement!

I'll be in Ames, Iowa and I've heard where I'll be in New Hampshire, but honestly I can't remember. I don't know when I've been so excited about something...it should be awesome.

And on my Christmas list? Thermal socks. ;)

15. Now I wonder if that would be a good time to arrange a DU meetup
in Des Moines, Iowa the weekend before the January 19 caucus. I may start a post in the Lounge if there are enough DUers interested. I'm always game to meet more DUers.

21. I didn't mean to be bad exactly.
I thought it was time to start discussing
the candidates and their favorite issues.
People got a going pretty good about going
to Iowa and so forth. I am harkened that so
many people are going their for there man
or gal. So, some people take things humoruos that
are serious, some people take things cereal
that are hummus, some people read a post,
some people read a headline, some people read
the writing in the sand, but all of the people
... I can't remember the rest, probably
something about gleaming buttocks. I wish
I was going to Iowa and that sort of thing, but
I am stuck here running the most powerful nation
in the country. As you know, I am relieved
that I called off that gruleing investigation of
myself about how people could have misunderstood
the wrong idea about me. I never meant those gals
any more harm than Michael Jackson means those
boys. I questioned myself intensively over a period of
several weeks non-stop, with grueling flourescent
lights, no sleep, mo meat, no comic books, constant
Sting records blasting, etc., and I kept insisting
that I didn't know anything, and finally I believed
me, danke Gott.

22. How about Colorado?
Anyone coming to Colorado to get out the vote for his/her candidate? I realize that our caucuses are in April, and that things might be pretty well decided by then, but hey...we've got mountains. Iowa has...corn. ;-)
