Newsmax's pathetic spin on Moveon.org controversy
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2004/1/6/235744.shtml

Newsmax refuses to let go of the idea that Moveon.org "sponsored" the Hitler/Bush ads. Now they are bringing up the fact that at the end of one of the ads, a voice claims the ad is sponsored by Moveon.org. Obvioulsy this is done because, had the ad entry actually won and been aired, it would have indeed been sponsored by moveon.org. However, it didn't win, in fact it got creamed, and never was sponsored by anybody. DUH.

Leave it to Newsmax though to try and trick some of their more stupid readers with this useless fact. I thought I would alert other DUers out there to this tactic.

2. On the RNC website
THe only place in the entire internet world, as far as I know, where you can now view the ad as well as the other "Hitler/Bush" ad is on the Republican Naitonal Comittee website. So it is kind of hard for them to claim that Moveon.org is pushing the ad or sponsoring it.

Thing is...
... if moveon.org wasn't willing to stand behind the ad, they shouldn't have posted it in the first place. They had to know it would be used against them. Someone was asleep at the wheel.

6. The ads were self posted
There is no physical way MoveOn could have reviewed all 1500 ads. I'm very surprised my "Bush dartboard" ad didn't get similar RNC treatment. I'm guessing they just never got around to viewing it.

13. Didn't know that.
>The ads were self posted.

Given what people are capable of doing, that was moveon.org's first mistake.

5. I checked... there's only scene-by-scene description
and transcript. No video or stills.

Rats. I would have liked to have seen it.

3. LOL, Limbacher and Ruddy, two clowns with computers
I find it exceedingly amusing how FAUX News Channel has them on, as if they were a real news website.

4. This spin is everywhere
Not just Newsmax. Every RW talk show has been claiming the exact same thing, which means it comes directly from the desk of Karl Rove.

9. "Not Appropriate For Television" Is What They Keep Repeating
It's just a guess, but I'm guessing that ANYTHING that's anti-bush isn't appropriate in their eyes.

Based on the descriptions I've seen of the ad... it seems to be pretty powerful stuff. Definitely harsh, but not "inappropriate".

8. I saw Ed (dumb ass) Gillespie on one of the Sunday morning talk shows
trying to make an argument that moveon was taking illegal contributions to defeat *. The thugs are scared of moveon. They are desperately trying to discredit them. Hopefully it will make moveon more powerful.

10. You're right about it being everywhere...
as I was waking up this morning...well, afternoon :silly: I woke up to that Bridget anchor on Fox talking with some man (forgive me, I didn't have my glasses on :) ) about how incredibly terrible the 'Moveon.org Bush/Hitler ad' was. When I became vision capable, the blaring headline was (of COURSE) 'When Dems attack'. Talk about a nasty thing to wake up to! :(

12. If I had seen it at Moveon.org...
and it had said in it that it was sponsored by Moveon.org, I might be confused into thinking it was theirs as well. Moveon should admit the mistake and move on.

I don't think it is that big a deal anyway. Why get all upset about an ad that would not have seen the light of day if it hadn't been for the repugs talking about it all the time.

14. Try this site
http://www.conwebwatch.com/

They call Newsmax and WorldNetDaily on their bullshit.

My favorite was the WND article about Hillary Clinton's book being displayed in the Sci-Fi section at Barnes & Noble, complete with a pic.

Never mind the photographer put it there.
