So what about the Illegal Immigrant Amnesty and Selective Service 2005?
Edited on Wed Jan-07-04 04:25 PM by jokerman2004
Random House dictionary -- Amnesty: a general pardon for offenses against the government. (So beware of the Bushco new-speak that redefines words on the fly for his low-literacy fan base.)

I'm really wondering about how this unexpected Amnesty proposal ties in with the overall neocon plan for a worldwide corporate empire.

Does this have anything to do with the Selective Service System quietly spending $28,290,000 to tool up by March 31, 2005 to ensure a mobilization infrastructure of 56 State Headquarters, 442 Area Offices and 1,980 Local Boards are operational within 75 days of an authorized return to conscription???

Here's three scenarios I can imagine:

Bushco is going to need allot more meat to send into its proposed endless global war on *whatever*. The proposal is that all citizens up to the age of 40 will be required to register for the draft -- including highly skilled and specialty human resources. That's allot of meat. That's allot of soldiers leaving jobs, never getting to the job market, or never getting back into the job market after the resession. What do you do? Bring in the illegals. Let 'em work for minimum wage for all unskilled or minimally skilled jobs. That's allot of jobs when you think of all the restaurants, strip malls, wal-marts, gas stations and construction companies who will be looking for replacements for the thousands/millions of neocon warmeat that will eventually be shipped off to foreign service. In this scenario, we can look forward to a new slave class who will just be happy to be here.

Or, a scenario equally plausible to me, is that this (like all proposals and programs of this administration), is only the first phase of the plan. The next phase of the plan would be to redefine military service as a "job" and launch an aggressive media campaign to "employ" the new demographic (mostly Mexican) as soldiers and war support employees.

Another scenario would be the next phase allows driver's licenses which will automatically include Selective Service registration and --BINGO! -- you get a new draft base of brown people to fight your wars for you. (Didn't slaves serve in the Greek and Roman armies?)

Jus' speculatin' here, but I'd really like to hear the perspectives of others here at DU about this?

1. Illegal immigrants *technically* are supposed to register at 18...
I can't imagine many do. But the law is clear -- anyone living here, except on nonimmigrant (i.e. tourist, student) visas, must reguster.

2. Also gives legal sanction to those whose labor practices are exploitive
Any of you ever worked in a place where the boss threatens to fire the whole crew and hire illegals because they will work harder for less?

How little will a worker take for an opportunity to earn a buck? Many workers are just about to find out.

Unfair labor practices hurt all of us.

3. Once again, either legalize immigrants or don't let them live here...
I'm tired of these should we give illegal immigrants drivers licenses or its unfair that people pay illegal immigrants less or hey those illegal immigrants took my job. Either we legalize them or don't let them live here, no more of this treating them like second class citizens.

4. You are right, of course...
What's interesting is that being an illegal worker is not a Homeland Security issue. If they are illegal, how do we know they aren't terrorists? Shouldn't they be fingerprinted and interrogated at Gitmo by Tom Ridge before being expelled from the country?
