Woman Crushed To Death Between 2 Boats

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- A Colorado woman was crushed to death between her new million-dollar yacht and a nearby sailboat, officials said.

Lillian Montague, 54, of Arvada, Colo., and her husband, Ronald, were raising their anchor Sunday when their boat became tangled in an unoccupied sailboat's mooring line, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Montague was apparently attempting to prevent the two vessels from crashing, said Jorge Pino, spokesman for the wildlife commission.

"The front part of the bow of the sailboat pinned her up against her boat," Pino said.

She was pronounced dead at St. Mary's Medical Center.

1. That's too bad

People don't realize the dangers of two boats being close together. I used to work as a steward on an 86 foot charter vessel when I was 18. It weighed something like 84 tons and just to move it close to the dock I had to pull for about two minutes to get it going, but once it did, it didn't stop for anything.

My finger got caught between two boats when I was a kid and it pinched my fingernail right off. I can't image the force generate by a 47-foot yacht.
