I got married again today!
DH is downstairs watching the Mariners game (sooooo romantic,) so I'm online for a few minutes.

We have been talking about reaffirming our wedding vows for the past nine years and ten months ;-), which translates out to the exact length of our marriage. (Let's just say that the wedding didn't go well.) We had a golden opportunity fall into our laps, and we took it. Today.

We were remarried in Leavenworth, WA (Little Bavaria in the middle of Eastern Washington,) by the mayor this afternoon. There were two guests in attendance; this is EXACTLY what we wanted. Our wedding attire consisted of shorts, Hawaiian shirts, and Teva-type sandals.

I still cried during the vows. :eyes:

Everyone had cake, good champagne, (Perrier-Jouet for the lurking F*eekers,) lots of toasts, hugs, and we drove back home early this evening.

It was perfect.

I love my man, and he loves me.

Julie

p.s. Okay, DU'ers, you're a romantic bunch. Who's next?

6. Little Bavaria? My dear Julie RB...
Edited on Thu Jul-10-03 01:10 AM by 5thGenDemocrat
First, my sincerest congratulations on the re-nuptuals.
Now, you obviously haven't ever seen Frankenmuth, Michigan -- home of Zehnder's Bavarian Inn (aka Chicken Auschwitz), maybe one of the top ten dining destinations in the USA. There're billboards all OVER the country enticing folks to come to the 'Muth, spend money and eat chicken (Frankenmuth is in the Guinness Book of World Records for Largest Servings at a Restaurant -- it's, like. POUNDS of chicken @ $12.95 per).
Kids from the real Bavaria come to Frankenmuth each year as exchange students and they laugh their asses off at what we Americans (really, north central Michiganians et al) think Bavaria looks like.
John
Mom's side of my German heritage, Silesians (Breslau) all, always took great joy in looking down their noses at the "plotzdeutsch" Bavarians of dad's side. Truth is, if you like to eat chicken, Zehnder's is a spiffy deal (though dad hated chickens -- both in the sense that he grew up having to tend to them on a farm and as something to eat. Dad hated Harry Truman, too -- though that, believe me, is another story entirely).
The Huns and Visigoths amongst us know how we Germans, however far removed, can cop an attitude. None of my family came from anyplace cool like Berlin or Dresden (or another such cosmopolitan place) but mom's side of the blood could always be snotty about such things
Thank God we found Saginaw (Center of the Universe) by blind luck during our emigration.

15. I've never heard that one before...
Ah, I'm an old Zehnder's fan, but I'd never heard it called "Chicken Auschwitz" before...maaaan, that's black humour if I ever heard any. (Quick! Go get a copy of Art Spiegelman's _Maus_, if you haven't read it already.)

Just do me a favour, and don't drag me back to Bronner's, ok? That place is like Definition 10 of Hell for me.

21. 5th Generation Democrat, you must come on out to Leavenworth, WA
>Now, you obviously haven't ever seen Frankenmuth, Michigan -- home of Zehnder's Bavarian Inn (aka Chicken Auschwitz), maybe one of the top ten dining destinations in the USA.<

Sounds pretty interesting!

We don't have Zehnder's here, but we always have a great time in Leavenworth.

The city fathers of Leavenworth decided many years ago to transform themselves into a Bavarian paradise (in the middle of Eastern Washington, which is otherwise known as Hotter Than Hell.) The tourists dig it, and there's always something fun going on there. (The beer's pretty good, too! :toast:)

Here's a website, so you can take a look: http://www.pbase.com/run4est/leavenworth_wa (thumbnail photos of some of the sites in town,)

Here's the city website: http://www.leavenworth.org

Thank you for all of your good wishes, everyone! I feel like a brand-new bride again!

Julie

12. Lets see
I just got married on the Outer Banks in N.C. I wore attire from the country from India, my best man (my brother the Dead Head) wore a jacket with about every friggin color on it. We had a bag Piper play some tunes. It was a great time. We were barefoot. O yea and one drunken nekkid dwarf. Seriously my new brother in law. Actually he was hungover from the night before but he was nekkid for part of the time. Everything I wanted

24. Our kitten
Hi Geni,

How are your furfaces doing? Mojo (our older Pinecoon boy,) is huge. Oscar, our four-month-old holy terror, is just fine.

If anyone wants to see great photos of Oscar, go to http://www.pinecoon.com, click on "kittens," then click on "Moxie and Rumble's Kittens". (If I ever figure out how to post pictures, I'll post some on DU from DH's digital camera...)

I hope everything's great for you!

Julie
