15. Oh, It Does Not!
The thesaurus was a dinosaur with an extremely large vocabulary, and they named the book after it.

Everyone knows that!

Classical Greek! Don't make me laugh.

3. The Thesaurus
Edited on Tue May-25-04 03:16 PM by benburch
The Thesaurus (Thesauri Rogetti) is a Sauropod Dinosaur from the late Cretaceous found in strata near the KT-boundary. It was a problematic fossil for years as its parts seemed to fit so many other similar animals.

4. I truly treasure my thesaurus. . .
It's my favorite reference book. I got it at a yard sale. It's a paperback and has lost it's cover. On the spine it says that it cost 35 cents but I probably paid less.

The use of language in this edition of Roget is so eloquent and fanciful. Probably explains why I love the witty repartee of movies from the 30's.

Their handle on our language was so superior to what is commonplace now.

We can't go 'round naming one of the very few truly worth American comedians after bad germans now, can we? ;)

Yes, I totally ripped it off from him...but since he never waits for answers when he asks, I thought maybe this most burning question might fare better here. ;):D

On the other hand, you have different fingers :P

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate :P

You know how it is when you go to be the subject of a psychology experiment, and nobody else shows up, and you think maybe that's part of the experiment? I'm like that all the time :D

When I turned two I was really anxious, because I'd doubled my age in a year. I thought, if this keeps up, by the time I'm six I'll be ninety :D

I went to a restaurant that serves "breakfast any time." So I ordered French Toast during the Renaissance :P

I love to go shopping. I love to freak out salespeople. THe ask me if they can help me, and I say, "Have you got anythign I'd like?" Then they ask me what size I need, and I say "Extra Medium."

9. "THE" from Greek "theo" as in
"theocracy", as pertaining to religion, and "saurus" from Greek for lizard, as in "tyranosaurus". Therefore "Thesaurus" means "a religious lizard", although I have also heard it (incorrectly) used to refer to a dinosaur that knows a lot of words.

11. Hey, that was my original sig line....
What's another name for thesaurus?

I changed it to my current one shortly after Chiburb correctly 'answered' the question. Speaking of Chiburb, I haven't seen him around in awhile - anybody know if he's still visiting us at DU?

12. Word-Mill
My PhD HS Chemistry teacher told us not to remember everything in a chart because it was always written down somewhere as long as you understand the basics.

I can always "Google" a Word-Mill if I don't have a Thesaurus handy or "Google" corrects my spelling or if my home office needs an immediate progress report from the job-site.
