It's my favorite reference book. I got it at a yard sale. It's a paperback and has lost it's cover. On the spine it says that it cost 35 cents but I probably paid less.

The use of language in this edition of Roget is so eloquent and fanciful. Probably explains why I love the witty repartee of movies from the 30's.

Their handle on our language was so superior to what is commonplace now.

9. "THE" from Greek "theo" as in

"theocracy", as pertaining to religion, and "saurus" from Greek for lizard, as in "tyranosaurus". Therefore "Thesaurus" means "a religious lizard", although I have also heard it (incorrectly) used to refer to a dinosaur that knows a lot of words.

My PhD HS Chemistry teacher told us not to remember everything in a chart because it was always written down somewhere as long as you understand the basics.

I can always "Google" a Word-Mill if I don't have a Thesaurus handy or "Google" corrects my spelling or if my home office needs an immediate progress report from the job-site.
