Do any DUers go Four-Wheelin' ?
I'd like to go 'wheelin with some folks in WA or OR, or even Colorado some day, but I really don't love the idea of spending the day with a bunch of armchair genruls with the stars and bars on their rigs.

Who wheels and thinks?

1. I know people really like to do this.
But I can't stand it.

2. Those around here
The 4-wheelers around here are disrespectful of private property and very rude so I assume they wouldn't be DUers.

Hope you find someone. :)

4. Are you talking about 4x4 off-roading?
If so, that's odd, 'cause I was just looking at some info on it and thinking of posting on here.

Are we talking the same language? If so, I'll continue, if not, I'll hush my mouth.

6. Cool.....

I'm currently in Australia and in the next couple of months will be heading off from the West coast and doing a lap of the place....which will take several months, given its size.

Me and the girlfriend will be sleeping in the back of the van we've bought, which is a Mitsubishi L300 panel van, but it's 4x4 with big tyres, bashplates and offroad suspension.

We should be encountering several desserts, many beaches, various river crossings + rocky tracks through forests etc.

WA is fantastic. Basically full of forests with tracks running through them and loads of scope for going anywhere you like. Even some of the main roads are just dirt tracks. I'm looking to get some professional driving training in before I do anything too extreme though, as I don't really want to get stranded in the middle of nowhere!

As you can imagine, this is quite a change from London and I'm rather excited. Obviously I can't join you at the moment, but if I make it over your way then maybe we can hook up for a bit of bush bashing, both politically and automotively!

P.

On edit - whilst we will be encountering many desserts, obviously I meant "deserts". Schoolboy error. Apologies.

Half my family live in Queensland, just outside Brisbane. It's beautiful. If cou have a high tolerance for t-shirt shops, visit the Gold Coast while you're circumnavigating!

edit= "goot time"? What was I on??

8. I used to wheel and think
But now I don't have a 4 by 4 anymore. Not all off roaders are ignorant hics, my friends and I used to clean up after the fuckos all the time and most of us a liberal. You can spot the difference by the truck they drive, who's a hic and who's not. Hics usuall drive pick ups that have been half assed in building. Others drive properly built nice looking four bys.

9. I like to get out from time to time...
nd most of the gys around here who 4x4 are typically Canadian (financially conservative, socially liberal). There are some BACs and some righ of centre guys, but nothing that compares to the kinds of ideology I see posted on some of the US 4x4 sites, in magazines, etc.

I like to get out for the challenge of it, and to get somewhere that's too far to hike--lots of secluded lakes and things around here!

I always leave the bush with more stuff in the truck than what I bring in--half the challenge is to see how much of other peoples' garbage you can haul out...

12. I will guiltily admit I enjoy doing this. How bad of an environmentalist
am I?

Well, I enjoy four-wheeling in summer and snowmobiling in winter. At my father-in-law's spread east of the mountains. It's private property, almost a thousand acres, so we're not disturbing anyone. And we stay out of the way of the animals. But I know these things are bad for the environment. I do it anyway. There's my guilty story for you.
