What kind of spiders invaded your home?

I just squashed a huge hobo spider. There are Black Widows in the area but not many and I've never seen one thank god. I also get some other strange big ones with small bodies, they don't look even remotley intimidating so I leave them alone. But those hobos, it's them or me!

I too love spiders...they are the bane of the insect world, but not mine! Give me a spider any day...even if they bite me I will not get sick. There are only a few spiders on earth that can harm me (humans).

HOWEVER, when I was about 22 and lived in a trailer on my in-laws back yard I woke up with the largest brown spider I have ever seen in my life sitting on my chest looking at me.....needless to say...I swung the covers off me...and ran screaming out of the trailer...seems it was a harmless oak spider...but...harmless looking...I think NOT!

This was a MONSTER SPIDER...it was harmless...I am sure it stood a full three to four inches from its feet to its full height.

I was asleep...I opened my eyes and on my chest...between my boobs stood a hairy monster...and it was NOT my husband!

on your chest about 6 inches from your eyeballs???? They are HUGE...they are HAIRY...and they are intimidating looking when planting themselves on top of your chest while you sleep....

Do you know how tall a 4" spider looks when you look down on your chest from a prone position? not down from your 5'11" but as you sleep and look at your chest to see a VERY hairy VERY scary spider with hairs you can see and eyes you perceive looking at you sleep? gee 4" might as well be a 4' spider under those conditions!!!...TRY IT SOMETIMES!

I have hundreds of them. They seem to catch a lot of fruit flies and mosquitos.

Daddy Longlegs have the most deadly poison of all spiders... but their fangs are inverted and they can't break human skin...no matter how hard they try!

16. I invaded a home full of daddylonglegs...

when I moved in here. Every corner of every room has a few, if I remove them, two days later there'll be more. Always will there be spiders here.They are harmless, just kinda annoying, they leave their webs everywhere, one reason I'm looking for a new place. I live on the bottom of a two story building, but it's on a hill, so even though I face the street and walkdownhill to get to my car my apt. directly adjoins the basement/laundry room, which is probably their home base.

The story about them being extremely venomous seems to be false...

17. Brown recluse are the deadliest spiders of all in the USA

even deadlier than black widows...but few know or understand. Everyone should be able to recognize a brown recluse. They are not LARGE like the oak spider, but rather small and VERY deadly!

The venom of a Brown Recluse is a neurotoxin. It will slowly and literally liquify tissue, stopping only when the tissue is literally cut out.

I had a friend get bitten by one once.

20. Big brown spiders and black widows

I get these big brown spiders every fall starting about now. They love to build their webs in the eaves. There's one hanging upside down in my bedroom window as I type. Outside, of course. He or she is about 3 1/2 inches long with a full body.

A baby black widow fell into my car the other day. It was so small, maybe 5 mm, I really had to work to get hold of it to get it out of the car. That was one fast-moving little bugger! I had to remove it because it landed on a dish I was taking to a church supper!

my home is home to a large chilean rose-haired tarantula and various benign fly-catchers. I gently sweep up the webs every few months and they have to start fresh. There are black widows out in the woodpile and garage. Widows are timid and non-aggressive. Just don't stick your hand or foot into their hiding place.

And on the wall in my living room there is an english translation of an old japanese haiku:

"Don't worry spiders; my housekeeping is casual."

23. Those teeny little ant-sized spiders

They're kind of cute and so harmless that I just ignore them or brush them off if they crawl on my arm. Once in a while a big fuzzy black garden spider will make its way into my room. Those scare me just a little because I always worry that one will end up in my bed, even though their bite is harmless.

... No expert at identifying the rest of 'em, but black widows and daddylonglegs are easy. I get a ton of black widows around here. I've seen more in the front/back yard than I can count. Fortunately, I've only ever seen 3 or 4 in the house... I guess there's just a bunch in the neighborhood. It's pretty much guaranteed when I go for a walk that I'll see some with their webs along the sidewalk at the corners of fences... or they seem to like unused cars/trucks, too.
