What difference does it make if something's trendy or not?
I was reading the tattoo thread, and noticed how many posts were focused on whether it was or wasn't socially acceptable / trendy. So I have to ask - what difference does that make, really? If I want a tattoo I want it because I want it, not because nobody else is getting them or everybody else is getting them.

I can see where I would feel pity for someone who got them for such a reason (with just a pinch of contempt), but to assume you know the reason is a bit arrogant, isn't it?

Anyway, I don't care the subject - TV shows, clothes, tats, hairstyles... if it makes you happy it shouldn't matter if it's in or outside the mainstream. At least that's MHO. :)

1. i have realized that i am...
one of those (maybe annoying) people that, if something is trendy, i am not interested. I might have been interested in tattoos at one time (didn't get one tho) but not now. Maybe it is just because i am now middle aged.

I am still waiting for someone to name their daughter "Trendi" tho.

2. It's probably been done
I know someone who works in a nursery, and ... oh, the names people come up with - you wouldn't believe me!

3. "Trendy" can be fun, especially when you're young.
But most of the trends I indulged in have been sent to Good Will long ago. Getting a tattoo just because it's trendy might lead to regret.

However, tattoos have been around a long time--the Ice Man had a couple. Some people just really like them & some tattoos are fine works of art.

Whatever.
