What does it mean to you when someone says....
..."You've got your work cut out for you"? I know what the saying means. But what does it mean personally when someone says it to you?

5. I understand it's supposed to mean the work ahead is difficult, but
to me it seems like the work ahead should be easier! Afterall it's already "cut out for you", you're at least one step closer to being finished!

As long as this is the topic, I wanna bring up "Have your cake and eat it too". Why is that an ironic statement? Since you have your cake OF COURSE you are going to eat it! Is there anyone out there that once they have their cake, they prefer NOT to eat it too?

It should be "Eat your cake AND have it too!" That implies that not only did you have the cake, ate it, but you then also get it back.

Thanks.

11. Well...
...it might mean that you want your cake there in front of you (to have your cake) and you also want to eat it (which would make it so you don't have your cake anymore) but you still want to have it.

I could be way off base, but you inspired another thread.
