23. Erp. Sorry. I "unposted" right as you asked me
what that meant. It looked like I was tellin' ya to "nevermind". I was just trying to unpost a wayward post.

Urf.

8. Sure
If you are already using port 271 for one purpose, you can't let another application use it. The best solution is to let one application act as a sub-agent for the other application so they can do the port handling internally.

11. Ohm's Law
Ohm's law is the most basic formula in electronics. The German scientist Georg Simon Ohm worked out the relationship between the electromotive force(emf), current and resistance. We measure emf in volts, current in amperes(amps) and resistance in ohms.

The formula ohm's law is I=E/R.

In ohm's law I is the symbol for current in amps, E is the symbol for emf in volts and R is the symbol for resistance in ohms.

Sounds involved but it is not too bad. Lets try to use ohm's law and you will be pleasantly surprised at how simple it is. We will be dealing with ONLY three measurements. How hard can that be?

We start with a toaster. We know that the toaster is plugged into a 120 volt receptical. With an ohmmeter we can measure the resistance of the toaster. Lets say we get 15 ohms. The formula, I=E/R can be used by replacing the parts of it we know. 120 will replace the E and 15 will replace the R. I=120/15. The fraction 120/15=8. Therefor I=8. Since I is in amps then the toaster will draw 8 amps in use.

That was too easy! There must be a catch to this. The catch is that there is no catch. That's it. With two known elements of a circuit we found the third element.

That is worth saying again. "With two known elements of a circuit we found the third element."

With the toaster we knew the voltage and measured the resistance. The elements of other circuits can be determined with ohm's law too. Ohm's law can solve for current as we just did (I=E/R) or for voltage (E=IR) or for resistance (R=E/I)

Know ohm's law and you know the most important part of electronics. With it you can find out how much current a circuit draws so you can put the right size fuse in or you can determine the right size resistor to use to bias a transistor.

Here are the three forms of ohm's law again.

-----------E=IR---------I=E/R---------R=E/I----------

12. Certainly
Evolution is a process that results in heritable changes in a population spread over many generations. All organisms produce offspring that differ slightly in some characters. The differing characters may lead to a lessenning in the liklihood of survival, which will in turn result in those offspring not producing offspring of their own. Over the course of many years, those organisms which have characters selected against and their offspring will be less able to compete, meaning that organisms of that species will lose a selected-against character. changes in expressed characters over time will result in differing species, and changes from one species to another. Evolution is simply the overall effect of the selection against certain characters over an extended period of time.
In a nutshell...

Say that you have a double capaciter system set up like the following:

+      -   -          +
|--Df--|-d-|----Db----|
F        n1   n2           B

The gates (F, B) are positve and the layers (n1, n2) are negative. There is a front gate voltage (Vf), a back gate voltage (Vb) and--in certain configurations an interlayer voltage (Vm).

In classical physics we expect certain things to happen. Namely that when we change the voltage on the front gate (VF), the capacitance on the front capacitor will change, but nothing will happen to the interlayer capacitance (i.e. should be zero).

Now, if you change distances and spacings a bit strange things start to happen. Instead of two everyday capacitors, you "build" a tiny capacitor up from many layers so that d (interlayer distance) is about 15nm. And Db is about 1 mm with d<Df<Db, what you find is that--due to certain quantum mechanical effects--the physics on the device changes. You can get some unexpected results.

This process is some of the reasoning as to why Moore's Law cannot continue to hold until we are able to look at the operation of such tiny devices.

25. I don't know about the microphone thing.
I would think that that has more to do with reamplification of the same signal over and over again.

As far as the rest of it goes, we'll be published soon on this very topic.

19. SAG actors...
...are required to be given 12 hours between the time they are dropped off at home, and the time they are picked up for work the next day. If they are picked up earlier than 12 hours later, even five minutes earlier, that is called a "forced Call", which places them in "Turnaround". The production company then has to pay them an additional $1000 on top of their regular pay, for "forcing" them. Any actor can refuse a "Forced Call", but few do.
