What's the Sexiest Music You Can Name?
My copy of Ella Fitzgerald's Cole Porter Songbook arrived yesterday and oh, my. I don't see how anyone could sit down with this and a lust object and not get laid. It amazes me how the soundtrack of the sexual revolution replaced combustion and mystery for rose-colored glasses and longing ("I Wanna Hold Your Hand"??? No, I think not).

What else have I been missing out on?

1. I'll probably be lambasted for this but
I find much of The Doors stuff to be incredibly sexy, albeit in a dark sort of way. There's just something about the confluence of Ray Manzarek's organ and Jim Morrison's drugged out singing.

4. Not Too Badly
In between the existentialism there were healthy pauses for the likes of "Crystal Ship."

I know the dreams that you're dreaming of.
I know the words that you long to hear,
I know your deepest secret fears."

3. Check out Diana Krall. Oh, mmmyyyyy....
I can't listen to some of her songs without needing a change of undies. And she doesn't just have a lust-inducing voice; she is an extremely talented musician.

Diana sings with honest conviction, honesty and with no bullshit...just talent. She also has the good sense to surround herself with dynamite players.

One of the most underrated and talented singers out there. What she can do to a ballad is incredible. Chops to burn!

..what the hell is going on...
Holly Cole IS (sadly) a under-rated singer.
Geez..I wish more folks were exposed to her.

The subtle things she does to a song just blow me away. Nice to see another fan here! And how about my other favorite: Jonatha Brooke? Way underrated.

6. Being influenced in the 80's...
Roxy Music's Avalon worked wonder for me...still has recently, too. I owe one of my college girlfriends quite a bit for telling me that Avalon did it for a lot of women.

On a more classic note....Joao Gilberto and Stan Getz....both individually and together. Must be that soft sax...

"Soft and Wet", "Do Me, Baby". Nothing else COMES close.

I know this to be true from extensive personal research in the 80's.

18. Astor Piazzolla's "Tango Zero Hour"
Probably the best representation of his tango nuevo.

And Tim Buckley's "Greetings from L.A."--in which the sweet-voiced folkie used a band & backup singers to create some seriously erotic music.

27. The way you look tonight

Someday when I'm awf'ly low,
And the world is cold,
I will feel a glow just thinking of you
And the way you loo tonight

Oh, but you're lovely, with your smile so warm
And your cheek so soft,
There is nothing for me but to love you
Just the way you look tonight

With each word your tenderness grows,
tearing my fear apart,
And that laugh that wrink-les your nose
touches my foolish heart.

Oh, but you're lovely, never, never change,
Keep that breathless charm,
Won't you please arrange it, 'cause I love you,
Just the way you look tonight.

And that laugh that wrinkles your nose
touches my foolish heart.

Lovely, never, never change,
Keep that breathless charm,
Won't you please arrange it, 'cause I love you,
Just the way you look tonight.
Just the way you look tonight.
