Best way to unload a car?

Ok, I am trying to get rid of my crappy 93 Corolla. It had an odometer replacement about 35000 miles ago, and the local Toyota dealers won't offer more than about $300 for it. I have the old odometer but that doesn't seem to matter.

Is it legal to turn an odometer ahead?!?

So now what? I suppose I can sell it privately but I'm not real wild about that since the car has a variety of issues. I think that may be my only route though.

How about donating it to a charity? How much might the tax writeoff net me?

4. see if your local PBS station needs it

Are they collecting junker cars to sell for scrap metal? If they are, they will take it off your hands and you get a tax write off.

My station is doing this. I'm considering giving them my van when the time comes.

I offed a car to a charity operation - I have no idea how much real charity benefit there was from the act, probably not much. But it was convenient and I felt was less likely to have to deal with either the buyer or DMV afterwards.

Edit: This seemed like a really good idea after a couple bad experiences selling off cars. We traded an old, nor entirely crappy, but not quite smog legal Courier pickup for some tree work. The tree guys sounded like they wanted to fix it but instead abandoned it alongside the road a couple couties north. I spent several hours with the DMV proving that it wasn't mine anymore. That sucked.

!!Whatever you do, get a signed release of liability/tranfer of ownership from the buyer!!
