I am off to quit my job!
Yay!

After that I will treat myself to a nice brewskie  and loaf around for the rest of the afternoon - my boss is 3 miles away. I'm only giving a week's notice as revenge for getting surprised with a 'payback' clause in my postdoctoral research contract. :nopity: Petty, but satisfying.

Then I'll take a week off for my first vacation in two years and start the new kickbutt job!

1. Congratulations!
What's a payback clause?

Enjoy your day!

2. payback clause?
Don't tell me they're going to make you pay back the salary you've earned if you don't finish the postdoc? It's already the professional equivalent of indentured servitude (or maybe sharecropping is a better example in some labs).

If that's the case, and if you've already got another job lined up, I'd simply add another week to the vacation and screw the notice. Good luck!

3. Yes, that's right!!
The real bitch about it is that I wasn't informed about it until the second day of work when I had to sign on the dotted line in order to get paid - with rent due and a baby home with the wife. I was quite blindsided by it and would never have taken then job had I known about it.

Fortunately my new job is a research position which qualifies as payback and I won't actually owe the feds any money.

Boy, was the soon-to-be-ex-boss pissed! The arrogant fucker immediately concluded I had only used the postdoc as security while I job hunted, which was not the case, accused me of unprofessionalism and lack of commitment, etc (really, after 5.5 years in a PhD program I lack commitment?!?). I was there for a few months before concluding that a) the work was really not the right field, b) that the pay was way too low to survive on, and c) that the boss was an arrogant, condescending, micromanaging jerk who made every conversation as pleasant as a root canal. THEN I started pounding the pavement for a job.

4. You are making me very, very jealous.
I still have a few more months before I can do that!
