I've just been sent home from work
The power is out; the computers are down; the air in the building is stifling (no air conditioner), some sockets are working (but not for my lamp).

Meanwhile, here in Georgia, over 40,000 homes are without power, and the estimated time for power restoration is two days.

I have power, stopped to buy some food for me and the cats, and my internet connection is running smoothly. Later I'll veg out on the sofa and pop a movie in.

Am I a lucky girl, or what?

Counting my blessings.

2. Meanwhile...not a cloud in the sky here.
Guess I'm stuck here until 4. :D

All in all, I'd rather be at work than dealing with a tropical storm. I've been there and done that.

3. It's only a matter of time
You'll probably lose your power too.

One of the best times I ever had was when Isabel hit the D.C. area and my power was out for three days. My friend and I played cards and listened to a battery powered radio. And we went out trolling in my car on Columbia Pike (Arlington, VA) for ice. If you followed the Dean stickers you would end up at the 7-11 that actually got a shipment in!

5. Ah, Columbia Pike
I was stationed in the Military District of Washington for about a year in the very late seventies.

Right outside of Arlington -- Fort Myer.
