Anyone else not give a crap about the Emmys?
I don't. I think it's all a joke. That's just me though.

A thing that annoys me about the Emmys is the gift baskets the nominees receive. They get these baskets that are just filled with thousands of dollars worth of stuff, including: watches, cell phones, MP3 players, expensive chocolates, and other crap. Can't they buy that stuff themselves? I mean, after all, they're all MILLIONAIRES!!!

Is there a little jealousy on my part? Perhaps. But overall, I could care less about the Emmys, or the stars.

Anyone else feel the same way?

1. I don't watch the Academy Awards either....
Or any of the awards crap.

But, to each his own.

12. Me neither. Just couldn't give a rip. I've just about checked out of all
that consumer crap. Wish I had a cabin in the woods, actually.

6. To quote Dr McCoy, 'Wait just a damn minute.'
Half those actors couldn't act their way out of a mime's imaginary box. Gwyneth Paltrow, Tom Cruise, Keanu Reeves, Pierce Brosnan, and as of late I'd include Will "Terminator Wannabe" Smith... They are not actors, they are mannequins.

Even Jim Carrey has more talent, and he stuck to what he does best: Making goofy faces and acting like an ADHD toddler without the ritalin.

They get picked for movies because of their IMAGE. Not their ABILITY (or even lack of it).

So now they're getting all this free stuff, on top of their ridiculous salaries?!!

It is not jealousy. It is a fair criticism. Especially when many of the celebrated aren't worth it.

There's a hint of jealousy on my part about the gift baskets. I'd love to have all those cool things.

I'm not, however, jealous of all the hype those overrated actors are receiving or for their horrible "acting" abilities.

8. (ideas)
Not only do I agree with you, but I believe that it is largely because so many people do care about Emmys and such other hubris, that our culture is in trouble.

It has been said that there are three kinds of people.

1) People who talk about people

2) People who talk about things, and

3) People who talk about ideas.

If we are going to get out of this cultural swamp, we have to talk about ideas (and things to some extent if we are to deal with our concrete problems). To the extent that the public is distracted with such hubris they are thinking about the issues of the day--or doing much about living their own lives either.

Therefore, among other things, they are easily distracted, and are suckers for political machines irrespective of the truth.

The Emmys are not only uninteresting to me--they are a part of the problem.

Are you referring to Republicans? ;)

10. The "celebrity circus" is a purposeful distraction of the sheeple
by the corporate media. As long as the attention of the people can be diverted by how much Christina or Gwyneth paid for a purse or a pair of shoes or the latest antics of (insert name of celebrity here), the intrinsic problems of American society and the world will not be addressed.

11. you know, now that i don't have cable
i don't know what the hell most of the TV shows and who half the performers are that/who are being honoured. i do like the clothes hair and stuff. but i am all over the 'disturbed by gift basket stuff', however it's the choice of the giver, and you can't really get away with giving rich people a box of Halloween Peeps. :eyes:
