<<Also buoying Manson's spirits (besides the absinthe he says he drinks on a daily basis) is the success of Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 - and the hope that art can actually have an impact on society.>>

10. read this too (right after 2000's election)
http://dir.salon.com/people/col/reit/2000/11/21/nptues/index.html

November 21, 2000 | When it comes to politics, Marilyn Manson changes his mind more frequently than Britney Spears changes baby-Ts.

First Manson claimed he was a Bush man. Then a few weeks later he was stumping for Gore. And now the goth rocker tells the Toronto Sun he didn't vote in the presidential election "because I didn't think that either one was worth voting for and I didn't want to settle for one."

But he won't feel bad at all if George W. Bush takes the White House, he says. On the contrary. "I think music and all art really flourishes and becomes much more exciting under a conservative president because there's a need to react against limitations," Manson says, sounding rather Nader-esque. "If it's right-wing, it just instantly makes me want to push the envelope more."

More?

(snip)

11. You have to understand that many of us remember
Edited on Mon Sep-27-04 05:33 PM by khephra
Tipper Gore's crusade against song lyrics and weren't too happy to see any Gore near the White House. 2000 was a very "election of the two evils" for many of us who weren't even in the Nader camp.

What he's saying here is that repression breeds subversion in the arts. Manson has been constantly referencing America as being in a pre-Nazi Germany phase of behavior and has never made any word of support for W (outside of questionable right-wing sources).

Manson's independent if anything.

18. Sounds right to me
Manson doesn't seem like he would be bound by party. His whole act is exaggerated, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's not a liberal.

14. I used to think the same thing, re:
"I think music and all art really flourishes and becomes much more exciting under a conservative president because there's a need to react against limitations," Manson says, sounding rather Nader-esque. "If it's right-wing, it just instantly makes me want to push the envelope more."

So how has entertainment and art become more exciting since 2000?!?! It's been even more manufactured and phony. Not art. Fart.

It's a myth that a conservative prez means better creativity and art. :eyes:

17. It certainly hasn't spoken out enough
I feel that music in particular has gotten better lately, but that has nothing to do with Bush. The trend was starting under Clinton anyway.

15. It's different when it affects HIM though. OK that others suffer
more under a conservative administration but a tragedy when it happens to HIM.

He was educated at a Christian school (I think it was a Baptist school) in Cincinnati so it would not surprise me if he was a puke.

19. ...
He doesn't strike me as the Republican type, especially with lyrics like these:

"But I'm not a slave to a god
that doesn't exist
But I'm not a slave to world
that doesn't give a shit
the death of one is a tragedy
but death of a million is just a statistic"
-Fight Song

"and don't be surprised, don't be surprised
don't be surprised when we destroy all of it"
-Disposable Teens

"Some children died the other day
we fed machines and then we prayed
puked up and down in morbid faith
you should have seen the ratings that day"
-The Nobodies

"The Father:
'do you love your
guns?'
(yeah)
'god?'
(yeah)
'your government?'
(fuck yeah)"
-The Love Song

He probably isn't a Democrat either though.
