how did the freepers know I wasn't for real??
Okay. I wanted to have a little fun this morning and I was REALLY curious about how freepers would respond to a question about high voter turnout being good for Kerry.

I have been "lurking" on the Free Republic for a while- as much as I can stand it (I am a sucker for punishment I know- and I am always drawn to those who disagree with me). So, today I registered and posted a couple replies to some posts. And then I went and posted a thread titled "pray for Bush- I am worried high voter turn out is bad for us". I mentioned the "liberal" media was talking about high voter turn out and stated that I wanted to hear their opinions on what this meant for Bush's re-election efforts.

It was really a simple posting- no indication I wasn't "one of them". I was immediatly attacked as a "ZOT". A few people actually replied in kind to my post and talked about how a high evangelical turnout was good for Bush and reminded me to get people out to vote. I replied to the "ZOT" message with something like "what is that- I don't understand I have been lurking for a while and wanted to hear your resurance about this etc..." A bunch more people replied that I was indeed a "ZOT" and must have come from the DU!! And my account was shut down and the thread was deleted.

So, how did they know? I have been reading their posts for a while- and I posted in a similiar way. They had NO reason to believe I wasn't for real. Of course, I expected this would happen but I didn't think they would shut me out so fast. How can anyone even feel welcome in their close-door society. If I was for real, I would be pretty upset right now.

This just confirms everything I knew before about repugs- but it was fun.

4. You used the magic (and for them) terrifying words
"voter turnout." They are so afraid that they are hyper vigilant. Plus, it's obvious from your post that you used complete sentences; a dead giveaway in Freeperland, I imagine. You are to commended for going to that slimy place even as a lurker. :puke: on Bush
Did you clean your computer after that visit. Might be a good idea; no telling what you might have tracked back (accidentally) from slimeland.

6. Probably because they already had a Pray for Bush
thread and everyone on DU was making fun of it, so they were very suspicious of anyone starting a new one, especially one that mentioned early voting being good for Kerry.

That was a sure sign that you were not a Freeper.

Next time, stick to inane mumbling. Then they'll let you stay.

16. Probably the same way we'd have known
(god, I hate to say that). But really, if someone comes here with a very low post count and posts a thread in which they backhandedly state how they're "worried" about Kerry's chances because of ... whatever... there are plenty of people ready to jump all over them. Whether they're sincere or not. Because they are raising doubt and that raises a red flag.

19. It is so hard to hold back
I didn't know about DU or the freepers until I started obsessing on the election and I was terrified about posting here for the longest time- for fear that someone would think since I'm new I'm a spy or something, which I assure you I'm not. I'm a life-long Greenwich Village lib from way back. But I get a sort of sadistic pleasure lurking around the free republic pages which I discovered much later (like last week) and am soooo tempted to jump in there. Do I dare? Do I dare to eat a freep? There was a particular "conversation" they were having in defense of Halliburton, something about baiting and ridiculing a liberal in a mostly right wing gym locker room because he criticised Halliburton's no-bid contract without knowing all the facts about the company. And the thread turned into this huge hateful Halliburton love-fest/ dem hate fest, calling us uninformed psychos, etc... If you'll recall the study which came out last week about cognitive dissonance, however, I think we know who does not live in the land of reality.

Kudos to you!

26. good luck avoiding the troll-flaming
you registered at a very bad time; the troll hunting will slack down pretty soon, and you can relax a little. id advise posting only in the lounge, keep things off politics, but thats entirely up to you. anyway, good luck, and welcome to DU! :hi:

27. I know what you mean
I've been lurking here for a little over a year, just using DU as a nexus for news (and some hope!). I was always a little worried to actually post here because I was worried that someone might misconstrue my meaning and toss me out on my ear.

However, with the election this tight and this close, I decided I need to be posting here for the next couple of days to keep my sanity and to celebrate or commiserate with fellow Dems.

Good luck to us all.

Btw, 212, I love those Village libs! I'm a 718er, myself...

28. Thank you!
At the risk of sounding immodest, we NYers do rock, don't we?

And yes, lurking here has been great for getting info and knowing others like us are out there, but as the election nears it's hard to keep out of the conversation. Venting with like minded dems is such sweet relief.

Thanks to you all!

:)

29. Welcome to DU!
We are all hyper-vigilant right now. Usually DU is very tolerant, but now is not a good time to raise questions about Democratic candidate. We're in pure Get Out The Vote (GOTV) mode now.

21. First,you asked what a ZOT was, which identified you as an outsider.
Second, you identified yourself as a lurker, which put you under suspicion. Third, you were posting worries the day before an election. All this got you banned. They love me over there. I urge them on to even greater levels of irrationality. You were being way too logical.

24. Good point on the "zot" issue.
Someone here once corrected me on my spelling of "moran" - and cited a link to dictionary.com Mmmmmh, I wonder if they told their friends in freeperville about their experience here.

Even if you don't know what ZOT means.

22. Freepers are a paranoid lot
but even more so now. Unless you stay quiet for a while after signing up or unless all of your first replies are in complete agreement with them, you're an immediate suspect. They also frown on people who post their first day, even if it's a positive post. They want to make sure you're not a communist or a homosexual or something. Joining a day before the election and then posting a somewhat negative article would have gotten you booted even if you really were conservative.

My first foray into Freeperdom as a troll lasted more than 2 years. Finally I put togther a string of posts that made somebody suspicious. I didn't get zotted and they didn't send the Viking kitties, I just got a message saying I had been trolling under the radar for too long.
