Techies - beware of low-end ATA RAID controllers.
They are typically a standard ATA controller with a different BIOS.

Linux, FWIW, will even see an Adaptec 1200 RAID controller as a non-RAID controller and act as if you've two separate hard drives. That's not Linux's fault; it's the Windows driver that truly does the RAID operability - and software RAID sux.

1. Um....
It's been my experience that ATA and RAID were mutually exclusive terms.

SCSI and Fibre Channel are the way to go.

2. There are such things as ATA RAID controllers... but, true,
if one wants RAID then SCSI is the only way to go. SCSI is meant for performance. I think somebody made ATA RAID so techies could learn something to not be able to apply on a larger scale because IT is being offshored like there's no tomorrow.
