Why does the CBC...
...go off the air at 12:30? Is that the national bedtime in Canada?

1. $$$$
the defunding of the CBC has been ongoing for a generation and more....and still the 'freepers' rage constantly at it, wanting it shut down. Demoralization has infested the CBC culture, and many of the 'freeper' complaints are now justified (CBC'ers padding accounts and so on, crappy shows no one watches etc)
Mind you, it would take several hundred fully funded CBCs to equal one Savings/Loan scandal; the ENRON thing could fund entire world's Public Broadcaster for many many years! (plus send men to moon again)
In Bush they Trust!

11. Hang on!
I live in Calgary, and I'm not a freeper! But you're right, there's plenty around here, though a rabid right-winger in Canada would probably be considered rather moderate in the US.

Worst part about my non-freeperness: Stephen Harper is my current MP, before that it was Preston Manning. Before I moved, my MLA was Ralph Klein. Sigh. Yet Calgary keeps electing card carrying Liberals as mayor. Go figure.

5. OMG they do and Calgary where the "9/11 BUSH DID IT"
and "HAVE YOU CONSIDERED ON SEPT 11 HOW HISTORY REPEATED ITSELF, 9 /11 WAS BUSH'S REICHSTAG FIRE" signs appeared, I'm sure is also prime freeper territory, go figure.

10. defunding
The biggest cuts to the CBC were courtesy of that bastard Mulroney, I think mainly because they kept saying mean things about him. I can't stand his kid either.

6. everything up here shuts down at just past midnight ....
That's because Canadians spend the wee small hours plotting our invasion of the United States!

As soon as the national anthem and colourful animation start playing, that's our signal to start our takeover-planning meetings.

But seriously -- I've noticed that Canada has a lot less 24-hour stuff than the US does .... for example, transit systems even in a lot of major cities don't run much past midnight.

7. Trains After Midnight
Philadelphia, where I live, is light years ahead of Canada. Our trains run until 1 AM.

On the other hand, I still don't have, and can't get, health insurance.

8. I guess you mean the TV network
because both radio nets go all night. Of course, Hockey Night in Canada can go late in the East, especially during playoff time, eh?

9. Canadians don't wait all night hoping to hear real news.
Their news shows actually report news, not just that bilateral spin that makes our news and politics nothing more than a beauty contest.

12. but, but, how do Canadians survive without the $$ intake for movies?
and why don't the American media simply lead with these kinda stories?

Movie hype is news, isn't it?

Inquiring readers need to know.
