To all you athiests,a challenge.
Go to a grave yard, draw a pentagram, and pray to Satan at midnight. Hey, he doesn't exist so what's the harm?

7. It is spelled atheist.
And why pray to a being that does not exist? To please you? oddly enough, I don't particularly want to please you.

If you want it done, do it yourself.

...anymore than I'd pray to a god, yours or anyone else's.

I don't believe in either of 'em.

When you're done...we'll talk about your silly dare.

12. I don't understand why an atheist would pray at all.
Atheism is the condition of being without theistic beliefs and, alternatively, the disbelief in or denial of deities.
Satan is a deity, in the Judeo-Christian world, the opposite of God.
To disbelieve in one demands a disbelief in the other.

14. Exactly! You might as well tell me to go to Graceland and pray to Elvis.
There's No Point to it. None.

I don't pray...ever...to anything.

Won't...nope. Sorry. Not even on a dare...at midnight or noon. In a cemetery or a crosswalk.

13. The pentagram is *not* a Satanic symbol; it is a Pagan symbol.
And I have several Pagan friends who would take your "challenge" as a personal insult. But so what? After all, Christians are forgiven! :puke:

16. What's the harm?
Well if you think atheists (note the spelling) are somehow, deep down inside, afraid of conjuring Satan, you're mistaken.

The harm would be vandalism and desecration.

I double-dog dare you to look in a mirror in a darkened room and say "Bloody Mary" three times. Just do it!

17. Why Even Make this Challange..
As I Christian I ask you why?

An Athiest wouldn't take this challenge, mainly becuase it's stupid, it's immature... and as someone else mentioned the pentagram is not a Santanic symbol.

He doesn't exist so what's the harm? Well I guess there wouldn't be really much harm, besides trespassing as someone said... but then again.. why would they pray to something they don't believe in. And if they are going to pray to something they don't believe in.. they probably much rather pray to the make believe good guy instead of the make believe bad guy.

In any case, I don't see anyone taking up this challenge, unless they are really bored, or really drunk.

27. Dare.
Edited on Sat Jan-08-05 09:31 PM by rogerashton
Both our messages were deleted for personal attacks (I think) so let me try the logic part again.

What you seem to be claiming is that the atheist is really a believer in supernatural beings, despite her/his claim otherwise, and your "dare" proves this. However, it proves nothing, since no atheist would see any reason to do what you demand.

By the way, I am not an atheist by my own definition, though I probably am by yours.

But look at the long historical record of violence by the Abrahamic religions, and tell me why you can believe in the Abrahamic divinity despite this. If you believe the Bible (as I do not) there is, for example, the murder of most of the native people of Palestine about 3000 years ago by the invading Hebrews. Their divinity then punished the Hebrews (according to scripture) for not having killed all rather than most of them. To take just one other of many examples, consider the crusade against the albigensians, in which the Christian marshall of France commanded his troops to "kill them all. God will know his own."

If you believe all that, and you believe that the divinity who directed these things is a morally perfect being, I dare you to tell me what you imagine that the word "moral" means.

On edit. Added a few words omitted in haste.

1780 meeting house, the "church" of the day, there is a tombstone that reads, in effect, because I cannot remember the exact words, the following-- I request to NOT be buried next to a Methodist!

Also in the cemetary of the oldest extant Catholic church in New England,or at least one who brags that, there are actually two burial grounds. One is a "sanctified" burial ground, and the other is, I guess "unsanctified" and there are actual signs there that state this. I was amused when I saw that. I wonder who those rebels were that were buried in the "unsanctified" part and probably, I would applaud them if I knew the reason that in their death, they were so discriminated against as to not be included in the same earth as those who had holy water sprinkled over them before they died and said a few obligatory prayers, or had confession or something. Maybe they just were those who were connected in some way to those who were buried in the sanctified area, and paid some money to be buried nearby.

19. Because it's snowing, freezing and dark out. That's the "harm"...
"Beach Blanket Bingo" on a pentagram at the ol' bone-yard five months from now? Sure, why not...

Actually, I've seen this done near Jimbo Morrison's grave in Cimetière du Père Lachaise in Paris, and you're correct: no "big guy". Just a lot of filthy hippies and the stench of piss. (perhaps he's channeling?)

22. I'm an agnostic.
Not an atheist. And I refuse this "dare" simply out of respect for others and their beliefs. It would be an overt insult to people and their beliefs as well as to the the family or friends entombed at said grave yard.

I do not pray to God, nor Satan, nor Allah, Krishna, Ganesha, Thor, Woden, Shiva, et al. There are too many to keep track of, so as a xtian why don't you do the research and see about going to the home countries of said faiths and try your best to insult their deity ? You seem to have no problem asking us non-believers to do so.

Maybe some of us non-Christians are getting fed up with people who feel that THEIR belief system is the only valid one. Think of THAT next time you're tempted to post something that knocks those who believe differently than you.
