6. Opera is lightning fast
I'm using Internet Exploiter right now but only coz I just installed a new HDD and am too lazy to find the disk it's stored on and my Linux OS doesn't recognise my $%$£%$^ modem. I'm partisan coz it originated in Europe...Oslo to be precise. Firefox is good but it's a Johnny-come-lately on the speed scene.

Opera comes bundled with links to PGP, Anonymizer etc...Micro$oft would never entertain those proggies.

:) After using tabbed-browsing and popup blocking, I could never go back to IE. I've been using Mozilla/Firebird/Firefox for years and I love it.

:D...i don't have to put up with any of gates' ultra crap...(the only MS program i use is word, and that's for compatibility issues (working on a school intranet, school has a laptop program).

safari is excellent, camino is decent, firefox is pretty damn good, and mozilla itself is pretty damn good too.

16. I like this quote
"Microsoft is constrained by its unique responsibility to make sure it works smoothly with all existing Web pages"

Bullshit. Coders are constrained by market share to make sure everything runs with Explorer, Explorer is coded to put up with the sloppiest html possible, it's a vicious circle.

17. It's a nightmare for web developers too
And I don't want to hear the typical W3 standards lecture. Our product uses Windows Media, and it doesn't work on Mozillla at all. All these people switching are causing us major headaches. It's certainly their right, and I'm not totally against it, but as a startup business it's costing my boss money that he doesn't have. Honestly I hope it doesn't get worse.

22. No, and I'm not against Firefox either
It's just that when people download a new browser like Firefox and expect our product to just work, it causes some problems.

IMO the benefits of Firefox aren't worth the wholesale switch, although it is a good browser. There's really nothing inherently wrong with IE either if you have a popup blocker installed. Since day one, IE has constantly been the best at displaying pixel perfect HTML and DHTML. I'm a website perfectionist, so that's important to me.

unless embedded, maybe because you are using a closed source file format, that maybe is the real problem. There are alternatives, out there you know.

28. It's embedded and uses custom script commands
Trust me, it only works on IE. It's not the ideal solution, nor is it open source, but it's the only current way to do exactly what we want. I'd love it if Firefox played nicer with windows media and script events. Hopfully they will soon.

40. Java doesn't always work either
Usually it does, but it'll occasionally fall asleep loading or just crash altogether (the broswer will quit functioning and you have to kill the process manually through Task Manager).

That would explain it.

I've often found that sites that don't work well with Opera work with Firefox, which is why I run both on my puter.

26. still don't like the way firefox manages my bookmarks..
Edited on Wed Jan-19-05 06:48 PM by frylock
it just dumps them all in alphabetical order; it doesn't seperate my folders from the links I just drop into Favorites. I use it if I'm *ahem* looking for something over on Astalavista, or song lyrics (for whatever reason, some lyric sites try and install spy/adware), but I still spend the vast majority of my internet time using IE.

As for tabbed browsing: don't use it, can't get used to it. I've been opening links in a seperate window for so many years now, that if I open a link in a new tab, I inevitably close the browser by accident.

30. Firefox is great, Opera is even better
Opera has been the real trendsetter with standards support, features, etc. Opera has had tabbed browsing for several years, and is still the fastest browser on earth.

However, I still like Firefox, and as a web developer I use Firefox, Opera and even IE in my daily work. IE has been standing still since 5.5-- 2+ years, IIRC, and is getting its lunch eaten in the "browser wars".

32. Aww....dat to bad..
I've been using Firefox for a couple of months, its great! I'm also using the Thunderbird Mail client,I wish they'd go ahead and mesh the two,but its not that big a deal to use it as a stand alone.

IE is an old, clunky security mess. I don't miss it nor will I go back.

having that feature but they may have since implemented (copied) that into their new crap browser. I dunno because I only use IE for .mht.

Opera has a nice DL manager too.

Well color me irresponsible too.:eyes:
