Pine Sol smells really terrible!
GAK!
I always use off brand pine cleaner, but decided to try the "original".

AGGHHHHHHHH!

I can only hope that the smell is awful enough to make Pugsley stop peeing all over.

I'm so mad at Pugsley, I may open a thread and ask desperately for advice.

But right now, I'm just choking on fumes. Ugh, it's got an undercurrent of burning rubber to it. ACKKKKKKK.

1. is Pugsley a dog?
I've found Nature's Miracle, an enzyme cleaner found at any decent store, works best. Pine Sol probably just masks the odor to you and me, but a dog can still smell. You need to actually break down the urine, not just mask it.

Now... why is he peeing all over? Is it new behavior or is he just not housebroken?

15. yeah, I think Pugsley is in need of "other" tactics.
He's just lucky he's so ridiculous that he has us laughing all the time. Very Lucky <---she said in her best Clint Eastwood squinty voice.

why can't he be good and sweet and pure like his sister, TeenyBeanyWeeny the Pomeranian?

24. he may think you aren't taking him out enough?
I have had animals for so many years and there are so many things that can set them off. You may not be petting him enough for his taste, taking him out enough for his taste, the other dog can be terrorizing him when you're gone, the list goes on and on. Also he can have a weak bladder.

I like simple Green--it's non toxic, biodegradable and removes old floor
wax really well. I plan to use that when I rent a floor thingy to scrub off the 20 year old wax buildup here. Yech. This place needs alot of work.

But for the pee problem, I thought I'd use the cleaning equivalent of a blow torch, hence, the PineSol.LOL!

5. Pugsley is a Pug! (Creative name, eh?) He's about a year old, and
STUBBORN!

I use Nature's Miracle, but it's too expensive to use for the whole floor, so I'm squirting it on the main areas (what I can find, mind you.)

Bleah. I hate the thought of what this crap is doing to my body system.

Snickers the cat is a stealth pee-er too! Oh man, I'm in bad shape. I just caught her the other day--now I know why allll these years, I thought I caught a whiff of cat pee from time to time, but had no idea where it was coming from.

Boy, I'll bet this makes our house sound like a great place to visit!! HAHAAA!

19. Pine Sol and all related "pineywoods" cleaners make me
sick as the proverbial dog. anybody remember "Janitor in a Drum"???

That is the most toxic substance I have ever encountered!

I would suggest an enzyme cleaner from the Pet Supermarket applied straight to the spot, then blot, don't rub it. Then put a piece of aluminum foil on top of it with a few holes poked in it and weight down the edges to keep it flat. Keeps the animal from going back to mark it again, apparantly.

An environmental nightmare.

21. do you ever try vinegar and water as I know the enzyme cleaners are
really expensive. Instead of buying that stuff (and I used to use it a lot) I am trying to get along with vinegar and water. Luckily my one cat (who was an aggressive territorial type would use my carpets and drapes as a spray surfaces) has now gotten way older and I guess not feeling threatened as much. I went through hell with him for years every day as he was busy spraying and I was busily cleaning up after him every damned day.

22. Argg! That is one bad kitty!
:hi:

But I'm feeling the same way, about Pugsley and Snickers. Sneakily peeing in secret spots...grrrrrrr.

I thought about vinegar to kill the smell, maybe keep Snickers away from the area she's been using. Does it really seem to work for you?

She's 14 years old, and did it at our last house, I just never knew until we had to pull up some carpeting!! At least this time I caught her, so I know of one spot, anyway.

Grrrrrrrrrrr. If they weren't so cute...... :nuke:

how many people who adopted them wouldn't throw them right out the door. I thought many times that I wanted to give up Babe, my pee-er cat, until I realized I couldn't as I knew no one would put up with him. The alternative would be to have him put down and I just couldn't do that. I had to throw out wall-to-wall carpeting in a really large room because of him and 2 very expensive couches that were goose-down filled. Babe is 14 now and has finally stopped doing it for whatever reason about 1 year ago. I had him to all the doctors for all the tests and meds, including the tranquilizers so he'd be less aggressive. WHat's funny is the vets know that 99.99% of all these cases are straight emotional problems that cause this inappropriate behavior. It's almost never physical.

Vinegar and water; I will keep re-applying it to the same spot.
