1. St Louis media is all up in arms about Canseco
Edited on Sun Feb-13-05 06:45 PM by ikojo
saying that he personally injected Cardinal's hero, Mark McGwire, with steroids. C'mon the guy (McGwire) was HUGE and I don't think that came about naturally. At least one St Louis Post Dispatch columnist takes McGwire's alleged steroid use seriously....

http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/columnists.nsf/bryanburwell/story/DEE09F931EA40B0E86256FA30023B408?OpenDocument&Headline=It's+time+to+revoke+McGwire's+free+pass

Mark McGwire is just as big a propped-up, juiced-up fraud as Barry Bonds, Jason Giambi and the late Ken Caminiti.

snip

But now what do we do with him now that the circumstantial evidence keeps piling high? If we all felt quite comfortable convicting Bonds, Giambi, Gary Sheffield and all the other BALCO boys with simple circumstantial evidence long before we saw their court transcript admissions of guilt, shouldn't we apply the same standards to convict McGwire?

snip

And as it turned out, when the BALCO testimony leaked out, our instincts were correct. So why are so many people unwilling to apply the same standards to McGwire? Tuesday afternoon, we dug up some old footage of McGwire from 1987, and if the before-and-after pictures of Bonds are enough to indict him, then Big Mac's physical transformation is just as suspect.

14. I understand that
but I see 60 minutes as a strictly serious news program. This just seems like an unnecessary fluff piece to me considering they only run 2 or 3 stories.

To each their own.

5. Canseco accused Bret Boone of steroid use in 2001.
Boone denies even knowing Canseco, and certainly doesn't have the build of steroid abusers.

It's turning into a witch hunt.

15. And Pete Rose got a lifetime ban for gambling
Sorry, I don't see how these idiots messing with steriods are forgiven and not only allowed to play but even make it into the Hall of Fame.

Steriods does have an effect on how the game will ultimately be won because has these roided up ball players are obviously going to make an impact with extra homeruns and what not.

I think the Baseball commisher should take a stand on this and tell anyone who uses steriods is out of the game and banned from the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Enough said!!

16. Baseball will only pay lip service to steroid use because
Edited on Sun Feb-13-05 09:21 PM by ikojo
if ball players are hitting more home runs at greater distances this is good for the game. The games are more exciting and high scoring which brings more fans through the gates. One of the major criticisms of baseball in this short attention span era which we find ourselves is that it is too slow moving. More home runs make for a more exciting game.

It seems that more than any other sport, including the greedfest known as the NFL, baseball is ruled by MONEY. If the roided up players can make the game more exciting the owners could care less about the effects of steroids on the players or the fans perception of the game.
