Sirius update .. chemotherapy #1.
Sirius's first chemotherapy session went very well today. When we left the vet clinic at 2pm he was playful and frisky. He seemed like the Sirius of old on the ride up here to the mountains, too. Dr. W___, the veterinary oncologist, was very happy with the way the session went today. Next Friday will be blood work and the next chemo session three weeks from today (5 treatments 3 weeks apart). I am looking forward to a good weekend with Sirius. Unfortunately, Dr. D is in Washington, D.C., (APA stuff) and won't be back to Greenville until late Sunday night. We will hang in the mountains. Sirius still feels great and has a great appetite.
Mac

Sweet Sirius

2. Sounds like a good report. I have heard from others that dogs do not

suffer as much from chemo therapy the way people do. I hope this is true, and that you and Sirius have lots of good times left to enjoy together. Please give him a few extra ear rubs for me.
He looks like a real sweetie. He is lucky to have such a loving and devoted caretaker. I understand, having had dogs my entire life, that this is just the kind of devotion they earn from the unconditional love they give us for their entire lives.

(Are you anywhere near Eden, NC?)
(I went to the Campbell Craft School in Western N. Carolina 2 summers ago. I am drawing a complete blank on the name of the city. I will have to look for the catalog.)

EDIT: John C. Campbell Folk School Brasstown, N. Carolina.

6. Do you know why dogs don't suffer from Chemo like humans do?

9. Never got the explanation as to why, but they just don't get the same.
Perhaps different inner ear mechanism? The drugs just don't seem to make them as nauseous. Difference in digestive system?

10. No, not really.
But it was one of the items in his discharge papers. I'll ask the dear doc on Monday. She will call me at 9 am sharp.

Thanks S. I'm loving that little dog tonight. He is in a fine mood and fine form. They must have slipped some Ecstasy into that IV this morning.

I definitely like hearing good news of doggies gettin well. I am still grieving my sweet little boy Sonic 12/13/91-12/1/04. He had a good life but when he got sick he went down hill fast. They couldn't tell me with any certainty what was going on without more evasive tests. I couldn't put him through that.

Sonic the day before he was put down-he was so skinny

Hang tough Sirius, you look so sweet. I will be sending good thoughts your way.

I took pictures of frisky Sirius today. I might buy a digital camera tommorow. I need pictures of this dear, dear boy. God, I love him!

15. Great News!
My advice continues: Love him, Love him, Love him...relish in the time.

While our scare was more than a year ago, I can honestly say that the quality of time with my pup is so much higher than it was before. She has always been devoted - but I don't think she ever felt that someone was really devoted to her in return. It's really more about my awareness (and thus active appreciation) than anything else.

Let Sirius weather this storm well (and you!)... while deepening the reciprocity of the relationship for you both!
