any SCA fighters feel like trading a DU contribution for an armor upgrade?
Edited on Sat Feb-19-05 03:12 PM by Lisa
I've got a nice shiny new set of fully articulated mild steel arms from Lewis Moore's workshop in Georgia that I picked up for a song. I'm running out of storage room, plus they really ought to be out on the field. I was thinking of selling them -- but then I remembered that there are some SCA people on DU, and that the fundraising drive is on all this weekend, so ...

The main parts are 16-gauge, with 18-gauge lames. Already strapped, and double holes punched at the tops for arming points. All edges are rolled for comfort and extra strength.

Dimensions -- top of rerebrace to elbow point, 8"; elbow point to end of vambrace, 9". Very nice articulation, so the joints bend to 70 degrees (way better than the 90 degrees that a lot of off-the-shelf armor can do). Flexed, the measurement around the outside curve from top of rerebrace to bottom of vambrace is 22". The arms both open out to more than 180 degrees. (Good armor should be just as -- or more --flexible than you are, so as not to restrict your range of motion.)

The rerebrace diameter is 5" across the top -- since that part of the armor isn't enclosed, if your biceps are bigger than 16", they'd still fit. (Lewis is a big guy and most of his armor is made for his size range!) The vambraces are about 4.5" inner diameter near the elbow, and around 3.5" at the wrist end. Both vambraces are enclosed (with twin metal hinges and held in place by a strap and buckle).

Here's the deal -- if you chip in to help with the shipping, I will send you these arms, plus a nice set of Gothic spaulders made by Lewis's apprentice, in return for a contribution of any amount you like, to DU. (You can put your own name or someone else's on the contribution, since I've already made mine for this quarter.) The 4-lame spaulders are mild steel articulated on leather, about 9.5" long and 7" at their widest point -- 6" on the lower end. They're already strapped and have arming point holes drilled, too.

PM me if you're interested, or post on this thread.

p.s. similar gear goes for >$200 on eBay ...
