9. I found mine, used, on line

I can't remember if it was ebay or Amazon but it was one of the two. It's in pretty good shape and I only paid $12 + shipping. Well worth it; Steadman's illustrations alone are worth that.

edited for spelling

13. That's a great book!!!!!!!.....................................
I love the interplay between Thompson and the increasingly homesick Ralph Steadman. Priceless!

4. Do you have any audio of Bukowski
When he's reading from Love is a Dog From Hell? That is still my favorite all time collections of poetry, and I have never heard him read any of them. I have always wanted to hear his voice talking about some of those subjects...

Thompson rocks, and he is a lot of fun to listen to. He reminds me a lot of that guy who played the villan in the original Robo Cop film (and later the dad in That 70's Show) Good choices for a Sunday night!

8. I've got most of the Bukowski audio out there...
Let me look around and see what I have. If you've never heard "Hostage", it's a Bukowski poetry reading from 1980 where both him and the crowd get progressively drunker as the reading goes on..

It's got most of his "greatest hits" from that time period, and Bukowski's always hysterically funny to listen to. The guy is my hero, so I guess I'm a little biased..

14. I just about gave my college adviser a stroke with Bukowski.
I was in the teaching of English program at that time. I needed to develop a series of lesson plans for the teaching of poetry to "tough to reach" high school kids. I put together a list of poems I wanted to work with and submitted it to my adviser so we could review it together before the project went any further.

We were going over my proposed list and this poor old guy looks at some of the poets and the names of their works, and gets a bit twitchy in his chair. (I swear he had to have been at least 80 years old and I don't think he'd ever set foot in a bar or been laid in his entire life..)

He gets to Bukowski on my list, and quite literally goes pale. He starts sputtering, "You can't TEACH that..." He almost stroked out.

I did teach a couple of Bukowski poems later on in a lab class. The kids loved them.
