My idiot supervisor wants to control who I talk to
Everything you need to do your job, he said, is within these three walls.

I've been mocking him ever since he said that a week ago.

When I need to exchange info with other people I usually do it face to face. When I take a break, I talk to old friends who I used to work with. They come and see me too.

My new supervisor is cold, arrogant, unfriendly. Maybe he thinks I am having too much fun. I simply can't follow his directions (not to talk to anyone) for more than a few hours. I think he's warped.

Will I get fired?! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

1. Can you complain to someone over him?

2. Our manager is new to the job and I hardly know him
but I am thinking about it.

3. Unless the original poster has the protection of a union
then going to someone over his boss may cause more problems.

Tell me again why unions aren't needed these days?

Sad to say, within your workplace the freedoms accorded to us in the constitution (and those not destroyed by Bush/Ashcroft/congress--dem and pug/Senate--dem and pugs) do not exist. There is no freedom of speech or freedom of assembly at work. A boss can tell you what you can and cannot say as well as with whom you can associate while on the clock and on their property.

4. Can you transfer to another area where he wouldn't be your supervisor?
Even requesting a transfer would demonstrate to your manager that the supervisor leaves soemthing to be desired in management skills.

6. I have worked places where a supervisor has
had a lot of turnover in her department. Instead of seeing fault with the supervisor (and thus themselves if they hired this person to be the supervisor) the employees were blamed for their negative attitude.

7. No, I am a contractor
I don't really have a lot of rights.

The guy is a new supervisor and has no idea what to do, so he tries to control every frickin thing people do, and it always backfires. Our group of 3 is miserable and barely speak to each other because he has created such a tattletale atmosphere. I think if the manager knew how ridiculous it was he might do something, but I probably won't approach him directly.

The thing is, I worked for another group for 16 months and have great working relationships with those people- and thats who he wants to stop me from talking to. He hates them for business reasons that have nothing to do with me. I'm just hoping he'll get over himself.

9. I hate jobs like that. I had a job where I was controlled on
what I could say. Ugh.
