Is it me or are car commercials irresponsible?
Do you ever WATCH these commercials put out by the auto companies? Cars speeding on wet roadways, doing spinouts on city streets, passing on curves, etc.......and the disclaimer at the bottom that ususally reads "Professional driver. Closed course. Do not attempt" is so small, anyone would have to have a magnifying glass just to see it! I realize it's the ad agencies that make up the commercials, but corporate has to approve them.

Am I just being petty, conservative or paranoid or does anyone else agree?

1. Well, Swiffers don't maneuver like they advertise, either.
Everyone's in on the game.

3. Don't use it
Sorry, but this is my vise. It's a Procter & Gamble product which I don't use any of 'cause they refuse to stop testing on animals. I'm not one of the nutcases that would break in to release them, I just try to do a small part by not purchasing any of their products.

2. You know in this case I wouldn't sweat it
I do hear you but realize they are appealing to testosterone to sell their product. I don't know, though that anyone would say "Whoa, they drove that Jetta wild and crazy in that commercial so I will too!"

4. But you know how impressionable teens are today
They always have been, but I just think that in today's world where they show police chases on TV, it's just not a smart move to give these kids any more ideas. As it is, they think they're invinsible.

5. The latest OnStar ads annoy me
Apparently if you don't buy a car with that on it you don't love your kids.

10. Saw it Sunday night during the Oscars
Can't remember exactly what was said. They had kids talking about car wrecks they were in and were saved/rescued because they were in an OnStar equiped car.

6. Personal responsibility: it's great!
The disclaimer is for legal reasons, but they are selling not just the car, but the "freedom" the car can give the buyer. Not just the freedom to drive infinitely along oceanside boulevards with no opposing traffic, but the freedome to do whatever the hell you want!

But you'd have to be the president of the moron section of the knucklehead club to buy any of that madison Avenue baloney.

8. Love your pic BTW
Still these kids are very impressionable. I guess it's their parents responsibility to explain the facts of life to them.

9. I'm personally of the (extremely unpopular) opinion that:
16 is too young to drive a car. I strongly believe that there should be a five year probationary period which includes having no more than two passengers, no driving after 9:00pm and before 5:00am, and zero alcohol content, and if convicted of MV offenses during the five years, you reset to day one.

11. It may be unpopular
but it sounds good to me. Here in New Jersey, they recently enacted a law that new 17 yr old drivers can't drive past (I think it's) 11 PM and have to have another licensed driver in the car. The thing that pissed me off is the insurance companies penalize them 3 points as soon as they get their license, and they haven't done anything wrong yet!
