Would They Really Let a Republican Win the "West Wing" Election?

Whenever the producers are interviewed they say that no decision has been made, but from a marketing stand point, while I think Alda is a great actor, Smitts seems to be much better suited for the role, and his character Santos, seems to have a more interesting story.

I just can't believe they would put a Republican in the WW White House too, it would alienate a lot of viewers...

1. They would have to get an all new cast.

You can't have a Republican President staffed by the old Democratic staffers. Maybe it depends on how much the actors ask for. Or maybe they would shift the show to include an opposition Congressional leader that some of the old cast might work for. Or maybe they will elect a Republican and end the show for good. Who knows.

the series will end on election night, and we won't know who wins. I still think that's the perfect way to go out.
