26. If they were named after ANYONE else, they would still be available
Ross Johnson, CEO of Standard Brands at the time, was a big sports nut. According to my favorite book "Barbarians at the Gate," Johnson found a candy bar called the Wayne Bun (which was made in Wayne, Indiana), named it after Reggie Jackson and took it national. It was peanuts and caramel in milk chocolate. It tasted good, and it was an unusual shape--kinda roundish--so it stood out from the other candy bars on the display.

The fact that he named it after Reggie Jackson, who was (1) a New York Yankee at the time and (2) one of the most miserable cocksuckers who ever lived, was the Reggie! bar's undoing. Reggie Jackson was the George W. Bush of baseball players--he was either your hero or the worst piece of shit who ever lived.

If he would have named it after someone at least noncontroversial, like Catfish Hunter or Willie Stargell, the bar would be available to this day.

81. You're right, it was very good
You're also right that the Catfish bar wouldn't have sold.

But if you google the Reggie Bar, you'll learn that the first year it was available, they gave one to every person attending the Yankees' home opener. When Reggie hit his first homer of the season, hundreds of members of the crowd threw their free candy bars at Reggie Jackson.

Hell, a Billy Martin bar would have sold better than a Reggie Jackson bar. And Billy was no picnic.
