Dumps Snow On New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- A storm sweeping eastward across New Mexico has brought lots of snow to the state, closing two interstate highways and causing many institutional closures and delays.

National Weather Service meteorologist Kerry Jones said up to 34 inches of snow has fallen at Mineral Hill -- a community about 15 miles west of Las Vegas.

He said Las Vegas received about 2 feet of snow from the storm that hit the state Monday.

Los Alamos received 14 inches of snow, and Albuquerque has received 3 to 9 inches of snow.

State police said Interstate 25 was closed between Las Vegas and the New Mexico-Colorado line because of snow. The road was reopened Tuesday morning between Albuquerque and Las Vegas. It is also open now between Bernalillo and the New Mexico-Colorado line.

State Department of Transportation spokesman S.U. Mahesh said Interstate 40 was closed between Albuquerque and Tucumcari. New Mexico 518 in the Penasco area also was closed Tuesday morning.

5. Weird.
Here in Oregon, we are having a drought. Last week, Democratic governor Christine Gregoire declared an emergency in Washington state, due to the prolonged drought there.

We expect this summer to be a dry one.

In the meantime, California got our weather (rain, rain, rain)

What's going on?

8. Everybody else in the country is getting all of Minnesota's snow
I've been back here since August 2003, and I haven't seen one real blizzard, such as used to be an annual occurrence here in my childhood and youth.

Four or five inches at a time is it, and right now we just have patches.
