As a mom, when I think of O.J. and Blake getting off ...
Edited on Wed Mar-16-05 07:58 PM by Maat
acquitted of murder, it just makes me reaffirm ... that if my daughter's partner appears to be in the least threatening in any way towards her ... I will sound off loudly while pushing her out the door of THEIR house .. and dragging her back to mine. 'Schiavo' is another one.

I don't know ... how is one who believes both were 'guilty as hell' supposed to react?

1. OJ did it.
No doubt of that. But I considered the case against Blake to be very weak.

3. No, they had a very good case against Blake
He was smart and used lowlife scum to do the job. Smart.

The problem is, though, that lowlife scum are notoriously bad prosecution witnesses. Juries seem them as, well, lowlife scum, and assume - even though they're instructed not to - that they're getting paid, or rewarded in some way, for their testimony.

But, the case against Blake was solid. I have no doubt that he had her murdered.

4. I think he

probably did, too. But I wouldn't have convicted him because I have some doubts that I think are reasonable. I won't try to retry him here.

Just for the record, I think Michael Jackson probably did it, too. If I was on the jury, I couldn't vote to convict him because of the sloppy prosecution.

Scott did it. OJ did it. These are, of course, just my opinions, but there they are.

I was on a murder jury once. There was no doubt that the accused had killed the victim. He claimed self-defense. Stabbed him in the neck. Given the story told by the various witnesses, we (all twelve of us) agreed, and found him "not guilty".

Next day, we had to report back to the court because there was a shortage of jurors available. I went up the stairs right behind the prosecuting attorney who was talking to another lawyer. He was saying,"but they're not supposed to do that. I'll tell you what, if I wanted to kill somebody, I'd crawl a thousand miles to do it in {name of county, state}." But he was wrong. One thing jurors are supposed to do decide justly. It's called "jury nullification", and lawyers hate it. But then, you know that.

6. Out of curiosity
What do you think was solid evidence against Blake? I didn't follow it too closely, but the little I did hear it seems like the case was pretty weak. Did I miss some major evidence?

13. he's guilty
He tried to hire someone to kill Bonnie. The fact is, celebrities--even ones no one has seen in 20 years--get away with murder, quite literally.

18. I heard his wife was the lowlife scum...
but that was a time ago and I have no reason to dig and google to explain. She was not the loving wife, if at all she was painted that way. She was a hollywood actor preditor involved in seamy shit in her past.

whatever, who cares. NEXT!

Our kids are still getting killed in Iraq. We're still getting screwed in America.

There are important things happening.

2. It happens every day
These cases just happened to involve celebrities.

But, on the other hand, keep in mind that innocent people are sent off to the slammer every day, as well.

It's not a perfect system, but, overall, it does all right. When you have celebrity trials in LA, you're bound to get a very skewed result.

Keep the faith, but, yeah, keep an eye on your girl.

7. I so agree.
The "retired social worker" in me fights with the "law graduate" side of me sometimes.

My instincts say that O.J. and Blake were both guilty, but they've gotten off scott free. It isn't reassuring, in terms of the justice system; but your points are well-taken.

5. What the heck does Michael Schiavo have to do with this????
Are you actually saying he killed Terri? Or abused her?

Looks like you'll be talking about cerebral cortexes again.

The schiavo case is in no way related to Oj/Blake. The OP draws a very strange parallel.

10. I think that there is a decent chance he might have.
But ... we'll never know.

The explanation for her collapse seems kind of iffy; and, I certainly wouldn't want a guy, who just happens to be her husband, but who shacked up with another lady and had two kids by her while my daughter was suffering, making the decision as to her feeding tube maintenance/removal. Creepy. I know that you may disagree, and that's O.K.

All I was saying is that all three situations have me thinking about how lucky I was to have spent the last 28 years with an honorable, gentle, loving partner (my beloved husband). I pray each day my daughter ends up with such a partner/spouse.

16. Well, I think that's pretty darn disgusting, if you ask me.
Passing judgement that way when you don't even know the guy. For the record, Michael Schiavo has NEVER been charged with hurting his wife, unlike the other two guys you mention.

Regardless, I think it is patently and grossly unfair to lump in Michael Schiavo with OJ and Robert Blake. My GOD. I don't think the explanation for her collapse sounds iffy. Eating disorders can and DO cause cardiac arrest.

Oh yeah, he's such a horrible guy he's cleaned her up when she's had her period every month for the past 15 years. What an AWFUL AWFUL uncaring horrible man.

She's not there. She's GONE. So he met someone else and has kids with them, big deal. I'd certainly want my husband to be HAPPY. He's been fighting to be able to let her shell of a body GO for years now.

I'm really sick of hearing people push the husband aside. I married a kind, wonderful man, too. And my parents happen to be mentally ill, drug addicted alcoholics. Think about how I would feel if all these strangers who didn't even know me would want to push my husband aside in favor of my parents.

Geez. Like parents are just saints and spouses are horrible in all these cases. I'm getting mighty sick of the Michael Schiavo prejudice. And DU is the last place I would expect to find it.

Sorry for the rant, but damn, you don't know this guy and he's never been charged with HURTING his wife. Patently unfair of you.

21. We pass judgment every time we post.
We humans judge virtually every second of every day, in my humble opinion. It is human instinct.

Here, we make judgments about political appointments, appointees, etc.

Each one of us takes a look at the facts gleaned from whatever investigation has occurred, and we filter it through our experiences. It just human instinct.

And this is a discussion board; I'm not a juror on a case. We're just discussing our opinions.

So, I don't feel ashamed about discussing any public topic.

I just read information that there was suspicious data observed by an expert when viewing her x-rays - indicative of possible abuse. It may have involved support by right-to-lifers, but that does not mean it is invalid. Just because he was not charged, does not mean that he didn't hurt her. In my humble opinion, there was not an adequate investigation of the circumstances of her collapse. That's all.

And, with that, have a nice evening, Bouncy Ball; it is just one of the instances in which we disagree.

You did not address the fact that Michael Schiavo was never charged with hurting his wife and the other two you mentioned have been charged with MURDERING their wives.

27. Dubya hasn't been charged with anything (lately) ... but
we discuss him and what we think of his activities.

Somebody doesn't have to be charged for DUers to comment on their activities.

My thoughts were just about individuals I wouldn't want my kid to have married.

That's all.

Thanks for the time.

Good night.

Just thinking about the partner/spouse one might in up with, and the situations one might find oneself in.

17. what do you feel about Jon Benet's death, as a mother?
I never see conversations about that, but OJ threads rear their ugly heads at least monthly.

Talk about ACTUALLY getting away with murder.

Those people were aquitted.

No one has yet to stand trial for Jon Benet's death.

25. You must not have a son.
And I just need to say right here, of course you'd protect your daughter all you could.

But don't you think most parents would? Do you think Nicole's parents wouldn't have done everything they could if they thought she was in danger of being KILLED?

But both Nicole and Blake's wife were adults. What if your daughter said "No, I'm not going with you, I'm fine?"

What then?

that child ultimately makes the decision, no matter how hard we try.

20. Sadly, the parents weren't even charged, or anyone else.
I think one detective really tried hard, but I believe he was essentially told to back off investigating the parents, as I recall.

Her story was so sad.
