Not really the senator himself, just someone doing an impression of him. I think it was a novelty hit in the 1960s.

also done by Joan Jett in the '80s, as well as used in numerous movies. You don't know this song? Hmmm.

10. I think Bobby Kennedy was the A side
And Dirksen was the B. My siblings and I always thought the Dirksen rendition was funnier. At the time we were stuffing envelopes for Bobby's senate campaign. I believed for the longest time that it was actually Sen. Dirksen singing WT.
