3. It's a stero-optical pair of pictures
And after about 90 seconds, a fright face pops up.

It's way past your bedtime.

4. You know what really fucked me up about this though?
My computer speakers were turned all the way up!
That was bad! Huge difference if your speakers are way up - it really did freak me out....w/o volume it would do nothing though.

6. The effect was lost on me
I'm partially deaf and keep the sound off -- when it's on, system sounds are just likely to disorient me.

But my eyes were crossed to get the 3-D effect when the face showed up. That's a little tough on the eye muscles.

9. A pair of pictures that combine to make a 3-D image
You have to relax your gaze and cross your eyes to bring the two images together in your visual field. At that point, the brain "re-computes" the image and it becomes a 3-D image that locks your vision.

Sometimes they're called stereo pairs. There's also a version where the images seem to be random dots -- when you join the images in your visual field, a hidden image will pop out.

If you're not familiar with it, the effect can be pretty intense.

7. I hate you too
It's 2AM and I couldn't sleep, so I thought I would quietly check out DU and not wake up the rest of the house. Unbeknownst to me the teenager had turned up the speakers.

Nearly got shot by hubby. Freaked out the cat. Gotta change my pants.

10. That was a shitty thing to do.
Edited on Mon Mar-28-05 05:36 AM by DemItAllAnyway
For anybody reading this far: Know that there is a shock that comes at you while staring at those calm landscape pictures. It's a kind of hideous devil face, and a screaming sound that's very frightening.

Shitty, shitty thing to post without warning.

11. i think you should warn/prepare people & not just send them to that link
a "friend" of mine sent me that crap and i thought i was going to have a heart attack.

he didn't know i used to have heart palpitations & i started blacking out one time while i was driving. and i get very jumpy sometimes.

can someone sue you if they do have a heart attack over this nightmare picture trick?

wouldn't it bother you to know you did someone physical harm?

needless to say i didn't click on your link. i've been there/done it.

how about editing your post to warn them it's a fright site?

13. The virtual equivalent of the joy buzzer...
And just about as unwelcome.

Super Joy Buzzer
The most popular joke novelty in years! Just wind it up and wear it like a ring. When someone shakes your hand, they will receive a "shocking sensation" which will practically cause them to jump out of their shoes! This is the best quality handbuzzer on the market today. Absolutely harmless.

15. Easy!
1. You want to give people heart attacks.

2. You want to give women miscarriages,

3. Please view that with the sound turned off.
